This new Star Wars game brings Cal Kestis back 10 years after Order 66.
Star Wars fans have been gifted with a whole lot of announcements from a galaxy far, far away thanks to last weekend’s Star Wars Celebration. While most of these concerned Lucasfilm’s movies and TV series, we did get a big gaming reveal too: Respawn Entertainment showed off its sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with a new teaser.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor brings the young Padawan Cal Kestis back, five years after he came out of hiding and faced off against Darth Vader in Fallen Order. The teaser takes on a dark tone, revealing that Cal and his droid BD-1 are still being hunted down by the Empire. The Grand Inquisitor seems to have taken a personal interest in finding Cal, who also fends off a hooded Sith/Inquisitor wielding a red lightsaber in the teaser. The video ends with Cal confronting another long-haired blonde figure floating in a Bacta tank. We're betting it's Sephiroth.
According to Electronic Arts, the sequel is being developed in tandem with Lucasfilm Games to further the story of Cal Kestis and his friends. The game is also for current-gen platforms only; PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC for a planned 2023 release. The sequel will see Cal pick up new Force abilities and ways to fight with his lightsaber, and Respawn promises more details are coming later this year.
Potential spoilers for Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series: interestingly, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place 10 years after Order 66, the exact same year Obi-Wan Kenobi is set - giving Cal and the legendary Jedi master enough leeway to meet up at this point in the timeline. The Grand Inquisitor (spoilers!) seemingly suffered a fatal blow in Episode 2 of the show however, making his appearance here a little puzzling.
