Sony showed off Spider-Man 2, the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, Bungie’s new game Marathon and more today.

Sony held a PlayStation Showcase today to show off an hour of footage from upcoming PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 games, ranging from first-party exclusives to third-party games. We saw new game announcements like Haven Studios’ heist game Fairgames and Bungie’s PvP game Marathon, and loads of footage from games like Spider-Man 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

Here’s everything we saw during the PlayStation showcase:

Fairgames

What looks like Watch Dogs but isn’t Watch Dogs? This game lets players feel like a modern Robin Hood as they break into forbidden locations around the world, fill their pockets like a kid in a candy store and unravel the nefarious plans of untouchable billionaires. The competitive PvP heist game comes from Haven Studios, which was founded by one of the original creators behind Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs - Jade Raymond.

Helldivers 2

Become part of the Helldivers and kill a bunch of aliens across space - it’s a privilege! This squad-based shooter got a satirical gameplay trailer encouraging players to sign up to be a Helldiver - spacefaring marine-like troops who take down aliens invading various corners of the galaxy. This looks like a fun squad-based shooter, but it was just one of many revealed today.

Immortals of Aveum

Electronic Arts showed off more gameplay for its magic-based first-person-shooter, which follows a man named Jak as he joins an elite order of battlemages to save a world on the edge of abyss.

Ghostrunner 2

This cyborg ninja just can’t get any rest. In Ghostrunner 2, your kit expands from heavy-duty parkour to vehicular chases down the side of skyscrapers. The game’s story takes place one year after the events of the first game. The people of Dharma Tower are rebuilding, commerce begins to flow, and there is hope for the future. However, with the Keymaster dead, a power vacuum develops with deadlier enemies looking to conquer Dharma tower.

Phantom Blade Zero

The Phantom Blade franchise has never been released outside of China, but that changes with its latest entry. In Phantom Blade Zero, you play as Soul, an elite assassin serving an elusive but powerful organization known simply as “The Order.” Soul is framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch. He is gravely injured in the ensuing manhunt, and, though his life is saved by a mystic healer, the makeshift cure will only last for 66 days. Now, he must fight against powerful foes and inhuman monstrosities, all while seeking out the mastermind behind it all before his time runs out.

Sword of the Sea

This game hails from the artist behind Abzu, Pathless and most importantly Journey, and it shows! The short announcement trailer sees our mysterious protagonist skate across barren environments in the desert, ocean and jungle while on an unknown quest. The gameplay we saw looked almost exactly like Journey, which means that it’s going to be very pretty if nothing else.

The Talos Principle 2

The Talos Principle finally gets a sequel that claims to expand on everything that made the original so special. The sequel boasts more mind-bending puzzles to solve, more surreal environments to explore, more secrets to uncover, a deeper story to lose yourself in, and bigger questions to boggle your brain. The story takes place during a time when humanity has gone extinct, but their culture lives on in robots made in their image.

Neva

The creators of Gris are back to play with our emotions in this gorgeous new videogame, which seems to be hand drawn just like their last title. The trailer begins with not one, but two different animals dying and leaving the protagonist - a red-caped woman - to mourn for them. We foresee this not being a happy journey.

Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean

This new Cat Quest game pulls inspiration from a certain pirate film franchise for its next title, which adds ship sailing, a revamped combat system, a freely explorable world and a new story to the mix. The story adapts to player actions and can be played solo or in co-op.

Foamstars

This Splatoon-like shooter hails from Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix, and it actually looks pretty fun! Players fight for supremacy in vibrant urban casino-like maps while playing with soap, ensuring that the only thing people are in danger of is getting a good wash in.

The Plucky Squire

This gorgeous indie game introduces its main cast of characters in this trailer, joining the player as they hop from 2D to 3D adventures seamlessly.

Teardown

Gamers who like to destroy things might enjoy this game about destroying things. Built by an indie team, Teardown tasks players with destroying entire maps in the most creative ways they know how: drive cars into buildings, tear doors apart with a shotgun and toss dynamite through windows - there are endless opportunities to blow stuff up.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

This trailer was a wonderful misdirect, taking us through a forest teeming with wildlife as animals tear each other apart before honing in on a lone figure creeping about unnoticed: Snake himself. This remake is shaping up to be something special, and we also got the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 coming to the PS5 later this year.

Final Fantasy 16

We got another trailer for the latest mainline Final Fantasy game, diving into its story campaign that features kaiju-like Dominants battling each other all over the nation of Valisthea for control of rare crystals.

Alan Wake 2

We finally got gameplay for Remedy Games’ highly-anticipated follow-up to Alan Wake, and it looks intriguing to say the least. The trailer shows off this horror-survival game’s dual protagonists: Saga Anderson, a cop navigating a fallen city teeming with dangers and Alan Wake himself, struggling to understand how things have gotten so bad in Bright Falls.

Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed delves into the Golden Age of Baghdad while putting players in the shoes of Basim, a returning character from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This game looks like a throwback to the original games in the franchise, which emphasised stealth over direct combat and parkour to evade enemies and escape unseen.

Revenant Hill

This new cat game is set in the year 1919, following a cat called Twigs who struggles to make ends meet after the barn he was living in burns down. Twigs begins to make friends and enemies alike while trying to make a new life for himself, and thus embarks on a quest to become a witch’s familiar.

Grandblue Fantasy: Relink

This action-RPG takes place in the Sky Realm, where myriad islands float in a great blue expanse. The protagonist, joined by a scrappy little dragon named Vyrn and a young girl with mysterious powers named Lyria, sails for Estalucia, a fabled island beyond the end of the skies. Along the way, they meet a colorful cast of characters, adding kings and misfits alike to their ragtag crew. The game can be played in four player co-op.

Street Fighter 6

We got a trailer for the World Tour story mode, which sees the player-created character journey across the globe to meet various iconic fighters and learn from them.

Ultros

If you played Hollow Knight on a drug trip, it would probably look like Ultros. This 2D game sees players navigate alien-looking environments with the help of a robotic buddy. They’ll also have to fight massive insectoid bosses on their journey, which we got a glimpse of at the end of the trailer.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

Hideaki Itsuno’s highly-anticipated follow-up to the cult classic Dragon’s Dogma looks as epic as we hoped it would be. The trailer introduces us to the main players of this story, which pits a medieval city against supernatural threats ranging from dragons to demonic beasties of all shapes and sizes.

Five Nights at Freddy: Help Wanted 2

You’re going to have to deal with a bunch of spooky animatronics again, if only because no one else applied for the privilege of doing so. This is a good way of catching up on the lore before the Five Nights at Freddy movie comes out later this year!

Resident Evil 4 VR

Leon S. Kennedy’s quest to save the President of the United States’ daughter from the clutches of a cultish village is going to feel a lot scarier in VR, and this trailer only confirms it.

Arizona Sunshine 2

This next-gen sequel brings players into sun-kissed zombified Arizona, where the protagonist of Arizona Sunshine returns in search of answers. You’ll fight off zombies with everything from shotguns to machetes, and the help of a dog called Buddy.

Synapse

Journey into the depths of an unhinged mind in this VR shooter, because the best way to cure an ailing mind is to blow stuff up… I guess? Synapse takes place on the eve of a devastating global attack, masterminded by the nefarious Colonel Peter Conrad. Once a respected black ops leader, the Colonel has since gone rogue and become a notorious enemy of the state whose twisted thinking has reached dangerous new levels as he re-emerges onto the world stage threatening Armageddon.

Marathon

Bungie’s newest title post-Playstation acquisition is called Marathon, and it looks like a trip. This follow-up to the original Marathon game from 1994 follows cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners who explore a lost colony on the planet Tau Ceti IV as they search for riches, fame and infamy. This game will be PvP only, with no story campaign.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Cayde-6 is back? What on Earth is going on? The final chapter of Destiny 2's Light & Darkness Saga beckons, but we'll have to wait for Bungie's Destiny Showcase event on August 22 to learn more.

Concord

Firewalk Studios’ new game was announced in very vague fashion, with a trailer showing off what looks like a starship preparing to jump into space.

Handheld streaming device and earphones

PlayStation unveiled a new handheld device that will allow players to stream PS5 games on the go, and a new set of wireless earbuds to go with it.

Spider-Man 2

This trailer introduces Kraven the Hunter, the notorious thrillseeking Russian hunter who has come to New York in search of a victim who’s going to put up a fight. Not exactly the most noble purpose, but Spider-Man might be exactly what he’s looking for now that he’s in possession of a very familiar alien symbiote. We saw some gameplay of Peter Parker busting up Kraven’s goons to protect Curt Connors (Lizard), raging out while doing so as the symbiote brings out his darker tendencies.

The perspective then shifts to Miles, confirming that we’ll be able to play as both of New York’s Spider-Men in this game. Miles is looking for Connors, who is wreaking havoc as Lizard. Both Peter and Miles chase after Lizard with Kraven and his army following close behind in the waters, but the beast gets away after an explosive confrontation. The gameplay we saw looked pretty incredible, and ominously teased a confrontation between Miles and Peter.
