nouns couldn't flip the narrative and exit The International 2024

nouns becomes the third team eliminated from The International 2024 after BetBoom once again crush them.

At The International 2024 it is a day of eliminations, and some teams have to fight for their tournament lives not once, but twice in the day – enter BetBoom Team.

BetBoom Team has some of the highest collective MMR of teams and has played two years with four of the same core players, but they still struggled to break into the top, always one step short of greatness.

Coming from one of (if not THE) least competitive regions, nouns came into the event under the radar before delivering one of the biggest upsets of The International so far.

These two teams met once before this event already having been in the the same group. In that opening series, BetBoom crushed nouns in just 26 minutes with a 24:1 first game and swept through them 2:0.

Tal "Fly" Aizik told GosuGamers “I definitely think we are better now. I wouldn't say that we are at the top echelon of teams, but hopefully, we can kind of ride that underdog story.” But it just didn't seem to be in the cards.

nounsvsBetBoom Team 0:2

In the first match, both teams seemed to get the drafts they wanted – good core-to-core matchups and scaling for nouns while BB Team seized a draft of terrifying tempo. In the post-draft interview, nouns coach Milan said that they expected the heroes that BetBoom picked and tried to counter it – but it didn't seem to be that way. Beastmaster and Alchemist combo just ran right through, destroying nouns barracks 25 minutes in and closing out the entire game in just 31 minutes.

The second game nouns opened with Windranger and BB Team went with Doom. Once again BetBoom's draft looked solid with strong lanes and map control but according to BetBoom Team coach, they did not expect to see nouns come out with the invoker and saw the draft between them being pretty even. With a 2k and 6:0 lead at minute 5, it seemed that BetBoom's draft was better… and things didn't get any better for nouns after that. By 23 minutes in it was 15:2 and 14k gold lead, reminiscent of their first game of the event. BetBoom took the lanes, had a clean, clinical game without almost any missteps, and just decimated nouns to end the NA team's TI run.

nouns will go home with a 13-16th place finish and $37,213 in their pockets.

BetBoom will continue in the lower brackets with their next series on Friday, September 13th at 10:00 CEST.

The action will continue with the final elimination series of the day.
