beastcoast concluded the Group Stage of The International 2024 with a brutal 0-6 record, making them the only team to finish without a single win. Luckily, no one is eliminated yet, but they have a steep hill to climb.
With just two days allotted for the Group Stage this year, the pace has been relentless. For fans, it's a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. But for beastcoast, each loss must have felt like a lifetime. The South American squad, despite their fiery spirit, struggled to find their footing in a stacked group that included heavyweights like Liquid and the reigning two-time champions, Team Spirit. For a young team with four debutants, toppling these Goliaths was an impossible task.
beastcoast showed glimpses of potential. In their first series against Team Spirit, they came out swinging with solid drafts and promising lanes. But when Spirit sensed opportunities, they pounced, and beastcoast crumbled, unable to recover or execute a winning strategy. They later opted for high-risk, high-reward plays in subsequent games, but nothing stuck.
Payk, their relatively inexperienced carry, has just under 250 professional games under his belt, with 100 of those played this year alone. While raw talent is there, synergy and cohesion take time to develop—and time is what beastcoast needs.
These tough Group Stage matches should serve as critical lessons for this young team. With the Seeding Deciders up next, they still have a chance to recalibrate before the main event kicks off on Sunday, September 8th.
The Seeding Deciders will take place over the next two days. beastcoast will face either Team Falcons or Team Zero – both are terrifying opponents.
