Xtreme Gaming reach top 6 at PGL Wallachia undefeated

PGL Wallachia playoffs stage opened with a China brawl between Xtreme Gaming and G2.iG, who fought for a spot in the semifinals.

Xtreme Gaming had lost only one series in the past month, and that came at the hands of G2.iG, who eliminated them from ESL One Birmingham in April. Today’s playoffs opening series at PGL Wallachia wasn’t about elimination. For Xtreme, it was about keeping a quite impressive winning streak alive while also taking revenge over their fellow countrymen.

So far, PGL Wallachia went great for Xtreme. They are the only team to come out of the group stage without dropping a single game. For their adversaries though, the tournament was a true rollercoaster so far. G2.iG had to play all five rounds of the modified Swiss group stage after starting the tournament on the wrong foot with two consecutive losses. They fully recovered after dropping the ball against Team Liquid and Team Secret, and today they put Xtreme to another test, but couldn’t really close any of the games with a  win.

Xtreme GamingvsG2 x iG

The battle started with G2.iG supports focused in game one on securing as many jungle stacks as possible for  Du "Monet" Peng’s Luna. But while they secured an obscene amount of stacks in pretty much all camps, there was no real action on the map for the first 15 minutes. The farming went incredibly well and G2.iG were holding a 4k gold lead due to the stacks cleared by Luna, but with no pressure whatsoever applied on the enemy, when Xtreme felt ready to fight, they mopped the floor with their adversaries. The first game closed around the 27-minute mark with 15 to 5 on the kill score in favor of Xtreme.

Moving into the second game, G2.iG switched to a more aggressive stance and delivered a nail-biter game that could have gone either way as the action went past one hour. The difference was made by Xtreme’s Zhao "XinQ" Zixing on a position 4 Marci, who found all the right angles in team fights to put his team in an advantageous position. With the game being dragged past the 60 minute mark, Xtreme also benefited from having Viper reaching level 25, thus becoming a six slotted Universal hero that was all too much to deal with.

Today’s victory over G2.iG places Xtreme Gaming in the top 6 at PGL Wallachia with a  8-0 game record. For G2.IG, the tournament will continue through lower bracket rounds where they will have to fight for their survival and hope to make a full recovery once more.
