Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen will head to The International 12 in Seattle with Tundra Esports.
Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen, the two-time back-to-back TI champion, will get another chance to claim the aegis this year — and it won't be with OG, or even Old G.
Yesterday, Tundra Esports announced they would head to The International 12 without Martin "Saksa" Sazdov, who would take an extended break for health reasons.
Rumors were rampant that Topson could be joining the squad. Between being spotted in lobbies, leaks, and increased practice in pubs things are pointing in that direction. If that were to happen Leon "Nine" Kirilin would step away from the mid-lane role. The two players have similar styles such as playing support heroes mid, dominating lane, playing kill-heavy style, and also hero-pools, making it a fairly easy transition for the team and Topson to meld together.
Topson was last part of Old G, a stacked group of veteran players. In Tour 2, Old G was forced to forfeit their 6/7th place series (the series that would determine if the team was dropped from Division II or would remain there for the last Tour). Instead of heading to qualifiers for Tour 3, they were able to purchase a slot in Division II, but only advanced to 4th place. With members of the lineup heading to various teams in multiple regions, Old G was dissolved and Topson didn't compete in any TI regional qualifiers.
Topson, along with Anathan "ana" Pham, joined up with T1 for TI11 regional qualifiers and landed a spot in the Last Chance Qualifiers. They were eliminated by ViCi Gaming 2:1 in the lower bracket semi-finals.
