What a roll coaster of emotions this has been!
From a glooming relegation matches perspective, OG made a final push through the last couple of days in the league schedule to force a tiebreaker scenario and snatch the last ticket to the ESL One Berlin Major.
Four losses in the first part of the three weeks of the WEU league put OG in a very difficult position in the Spring Tour, and before they knew it, they were one more loss away from losing any chance at going to the Major, and more so, extremely close to a disaster.
However, in true OG fashion, the clutch pressure performances were in order to salvage it all. Ooredoo Thunders, who have delivered the most upsets through the entire Spring Tour by taking down the Lima Major winners, Gaimin Gladiators, and the TI11 champions, Tundra Esports, unfortunately, had to experience first-hand the madness and the incredible comebacks OG are capable of when they find themselves with their backs against the wall.
OG had to take down OT twice to secure themselves a spot at the Major. After first beating them in the regular league schedule, OG had to secure one more win in a best-of-three tiebreaker.
OG
vs
Ooredoo Thunders
First game victory was secured by OG with a comeback registered past the 30-minute mark around the Roshan Pit. Up to that point, it was all OT’s game, who were tactically sacrificing their Clockwerk-Disruptor support duo to secure kills on OG’s cores and keep them behind in networth and also denying as much as possible a split push tactic coming from their adversaries with a carry Nature’s Prophet.
Despite losing that opening game, OT were able to even the series with a Naga Siren carry in game two, coupled with strong follow-up AoE spells provided by a core Venomancer, a Puck and a Phoenix and clutch steals from their position 4 support, Omar "OmaR" Moughrabi on Rubick.
Riding the momentum, Ooredoo were in control for the largest portion of the final game as well. They had the late game potential with a carry Anti-Mage and were perfectly keeping him safe, avoiding unwanted fights and engaging on their terms. But, the later the game it went, the better it felt for OG, who seemed to have mastered the clutch comebacks. They punished OT for a moment of distraction and claimed an uncontested Roshan past the 40-minute mark. It was the third Roshan kill of the game and it dropped a precious Aghanim's Blessing, which was passed to Tommy "Taiga" Le’s Rubick. That Roshan kill put OG in the lead gold wise for the first time in the game and messed with OT’s focus. That marked the full comeback for OG and the Major dream’s end for Ooredoo Thunders.
With OG claiming the last ticket to the ESL One Berlin Major, the Spring Tour WEU regional league will come to a close later in the day after a three-way tiebreaker with relegation on the line between Nigma Galaxy, Entity and Monaspa.
