Virtus.pro clinch ESL One LA Online title for EU/CIS region

ESL One LA Online has come to an end as Virtus.pro takes the title for the EU and CIS region.

The EU/CIS region boasted not only the most teams to compete (15), but the biggest prize pool for the regional event and also the longest league play —lasting just over two weeks.

New rosters and stand-in players for teams spiced things up a bit in the action. Add in a few upsets and some interesting drafts and the event became a big success.

Vikin.gg stunned the world with its impressive third-place finish followed by Chicken Fighters in fourth-place. Both teams are from the tier 2 scene and relatively low key or unknown players filling up the roster. They finished grades above superstar teams such as Team Secret in 5-6th place and Nigma and Alliance who slid into 7-8th place finishes.

The biggest success story though belongs to Virtus.pro, who after six months of a slump and disappointing, if not terrible performances and placements at events since their roster was dismantled following The International 9. The CIS team finally took home a title and looked to be back on track as being star competitors. After taking the first spot in their group with a 14:3 record (a 7:0 record for full series), they went undefeated through the playoff brackets to clinch the first grand finals spot.

There it was a grueling five-game series between them and OG. The first four games were one-sided in favor of one team over the other, but the last game was a thrilling back and forth battle for the trophy.

ESL One LA Online

With the recent events of Covid-19 affecting the world ESL made the announcement to postpone The ESLOne Los Angeles Major. Instead, the event was adjusted to be played in five online regional leagues. Each of the regions would endure a round-robin group stage, followed by playoffs.

NA and SEA regions were the first to come to an end crowing their respective championship teams - Evil Geniuses and Fnatic. Then beastcoast continued their reign as the South American kings, followed by RNG taking the prize for China.

No DPC points were awarded for teams.

There has not been any word from Valve regarding the DPC points that were to be awarded for the original ESL One Los Angeles Major or what will happen with the already accrued points or future points that were to be awarded for the remaining events.
