Virtus.pro have secured the first Major title of the season after outlasting Team Secret 3:2 at the Kuala Lumpur Major, securing themselves $350,000 and 4,950 points towards their TI9 direct invite.
An epic clash between Team Secret and Virtus.pro brought the first Major of the new DPC 2018-2019 season with a full five games —an ending that reflected the level of competition and intense battles fought at the Kuala Lumpur Major.
As Team Secret and Virtus.pro were poised to go toe to toe in the grand finals, the fans couldn't be any more excited. Their last match up was filled with thrilling plays and brilliant performances.
It was Virtus.pro that would take the first match for the series lead. After about 20 minutes of play, the CIS team overwhelmed Team Secret and snowballed to the end. Not to be so easily pushed to the side or succumb to mounting pressure Team Secret pushed back hard in the second game. Things started out in their favor, but as with most games between these two top contenders, Virtus.pro found an opening to make the game much harder for their opponents and Team Secret's advantage quickly dropped as the game became a level playing field. With an outstanding performance by Yazied "YapzOr" Jaradat on Weaver the Europeans managed to claim back their lead and ultimately the second game victory.
As the series tied up, the third match looked very similar on paper to the second match. Once again Team Secret claimed and then lost the early advantage only to regain it again after a short period thanks to some extraordinary coordination and plays, as well as a flawless game by Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng on Zeus. The following game was not less than spectacular on the part of Virtus.pro as they drafted, executed and dominated Team Secret in a beautiful performance of skill and precision, pushing the finals to a full five-game series.
In the last match of the event, Virtus.pro and Team Secret were neck and neck in the early and mid game. When Team Secret took the reins and tried to clinch the game, Virtus.pro stepped up to knock the Europeans down and armed with a powerful Terrorblade combined with great plays from the Magnus, the CIS team claimed the victory, barely contested at that point.
Virtus.pro's win gave them their 5th Major title in the DPC, and set them back onto a powerful start to follow up from last season's tremendous domination of the DPC.
