Execration claim their first title of the new season at The Major League in Malaysia this weekend.
While most eyes were cast on Europe watching PGL Open Bucharest Minor, quietly in the background eight teams from all over SEA and China - EHOME, Invictus Gaming Vitality, Clutch Gamers, Evos, Execration, Warriors Gaming Unity, Fnatic, Team High Ground were battling it out in Iskandar Puteri, Malaysia. With just over $71,000 (RM 300,000 MYR) on the line teams were looking for a championship title and high caliber competition to add to their season's accomplishments.
After a dismal performance at The International 2017 where they placed 13-16th, Execration have decided to reunite with Kim 'Gabbi' Villafuerte, releasing Fernando 'Nando' Mendoza from the team. With no other roster changes, Execration headed into the new competitive season with confidence.
The Filipino team had a strong showing in the five various Pro Circuit Major/Minor regional qualifiers but consistently fell short - assuming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place positions. Frustrating, no doubt, the team continued to train and compete at their highest level.
Entering into The Major League, they first bested iG.Vitality, wiped out Team HighGround and then swept through local favorites, Fnatic before taking on the Chinese giants - EHOME.
EHOME were dropped into the lower brackets during the first round by Fnatic. They were forced to survive the brutal best-of-one lower bracket run, knocking out WG.Unity, Team HighGround and Clutch Gamers before exacting their revenge on Fnatic to re-emerge into the upper brackets for the grand finals.
Execration roster:
Kim 'Gabbi' Villafuerte
James 'James' John
Jay 'Bimbo' Qui
Kimuel 'LeumiK' Rodis
Ralph 'RR' Penano
