1win Series Dota 2 Summer: Post event meta analysis

With 1win Series Dota 2 Summer done and less than a week before the Riyadh Masters begins, we take a look at the professional meta around Dota 2 patch 7.36c.

The 1win Series Dota 2 Summer tournament ended today with a 3-1 win for Team Spirt in the grand finals against Gaimin Gladiators. This was the first professional tournament on Dota 2 patch 7.36c that had teams travelling to the Riyadh Masters.

A few days ago, we looked at the meta from the viewpoint of the TI13 qualifier games. But all those games were played on Dota 2 patch 7.36b, and the balance patch disrupted more than a few things with nerfs to the strong heroes. As we head into the Riyadh Masters, the 22 games played during the 1win Series Dota 2 tournament will provide us with some idea of what to expect in Riyadh. All data has been taken from datDota.

Most Played Heroes from 1win Series Dota 2 Summer

Chaos Knight has propelled up the popularity charts after the release of Dota 2 patch 7.36c, not because he was buffed, but because he was one of the strong heroes who received a very small nerf. He will be hotly contested at the Riyadh Masters.

Monkey King, Underlord, Beastmaster and Broodmother have gained more attention now that the old crop of heroes is not as good after the nerfs. These heroes haven’t been tested a lot, but will have at least a few games on display at the upcoming tournaments.

Most Contested Heroes from 1win Series Dota 2 Summer

The TI13 qualifiers had the following heroes with over a 75% contest rate (starting from highest contest rate to lowest)-

  • Templar Assassin
  • Witch Doctor
  • Clockwerk
  • Shadow Fiend
  • Weaver
  • Dark Willow
  • Dark Seer

The only ones who can be found in the 15 most contested heroes of 1win Series Dota 2 Summer are Templar Assassin, Dark Seer, Weaver and Shadow Fiend, and except Templar Assassin, the contest rates of all others have fallen quite a bit due to the nerfs from patch 7.36c.

Monkey King takes the place of the most contested hero, followed by Pangolier and the returning TA who make up the three heroes with a contest rate of over 90%. Most heroes in this list aren’t completely new, but at least there is some shuffling amongst the heroes in terms of priority. One hero that was totally taken out of the equation with nerfs in patch 7.36c was Witch Doctor.

Heroes with the Highest Win Rates from 1win Series Dota 2 Summer (picked in at least 4 games)

Because of the short number of games in the tournament, it is a bit difficult to find the strong heroes on the brink of being heavily contested. But a few heroes stand out, with the most prominent one being Elder Titan. ET had four picks and four wins, and could be a hero to watch out for at the Riyadh Masters. Monkey King, who teams are warming up to, also did quite well. The others are old heroes who have survived massive nerfs in the recent Dota 2 balance patch.

The 1win Series Dota 2 Summer tournament was a good warm up tournament for Team Spirit, who now go into the Riyadh Masters full of confidence. This tournament showed that even a small balance patch has the potential to shake things up, and we will see more than a few unexpected heroes in professional Dota 2 in the next few days.
