Valve's longer-serving shooter is likely going to launch the surprise beta release of Counter-Strike 2.
There have been numerous rumours surrounding Valve's IPs, from the fabled Half-Life 3, Team Fortress 3, Portal 3, and Left 4 Dead 3 to even a revamped version of Artifact. Of course, involving the company's evergreen first-person shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which continues to grow its player base to this day.
Now, the speculations have resurfaced following a new NVIDIA drive update that showed executable files named "csgo2" and "cs2". The enthusiastic community began analysing and deducing how real is Counter-Strike 2.
From there, journalist Richard Lewis showed up and confirmed that, after corroborating with other leakers and sources, Counter-Strike 2 is indeed very real.
Aside from the project's existence, it is not too far from release. As Lewis believes that the beta of the game may be announced around late March or early April.
Other speculations include Counter-Strike 2 will feature a 128 tick rate, built with Valve's very own Source 2 engine, improved matchmaking, improved graphical fidelity, and optimisations.
Several leaks have also shown that Valve is developing a Source 2 version of maps since 2020, and the list of maps reported by the leakers are Shoots, Inferno, Lake, Overpass, Shortdust, and Italy.
If the sources are right with the project and its timeline, the sequel would release 11 years after the original CS:GO in 2012. And yeap, that does sound convincing to have an upgrade to drive and retain the growth of CSGO that still breaks player records on a constant basis.
