MOUZ, Natus Vincere, Team Spirit, and G2 Esports round out the list of teams qualified for the tournament's main event.
Team Vitality and
Eternal Fire led the pack of six Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) teams that advanced to the BLAST Open Spring 2025 on Tuesday (25 March), earning a direct semifinals berth in the Playoffs after topping their respective groups in the Group Stage.
Rounding out the remaining six Playoff-qualified teams are MOUZ,
Natus Vincere (NAVI),
Team Spirit, and
G2 Esports. Those four teams will start the Playoffs in the quarterfinals.
The BLAST Open Spring 2025 Group Stage split the 16 participating teams into two groups of eight teams each in a double-elimination GSL format. Three teams from each group qualified for the Playoffs, with the top seed advancing directly to the semifinals while the second and third-placed teams will start in the quarterfinals.
Here's how all the action in the BLAST Open Spring 2025 Group Stage played out:
Vitality, MOUZ, and Spirit qualify out of Group A
Still fresh off their victory in ESL Pro League Season 21 last week, Vitality continued to stake their claim as the best CS2 team in the world right now with a perfect run through Group A. Vitality began their campaign by making short work of Astralis in the group's upper bracket quarterfinals (13-6 at Anubis, 13-5 at Inferno) and cruising through
Virtus.pro (VP) in the upper bracket semifinals (13-6 at Anubis, 13-5 at Inferno).
Group A's upper bracket finals featured a rematch of the ESL Pro League Season 21 grand finals, with Vitality taking on a MOUZ squad that were coming off a sweep over Team Falcons (13-11 at Train, 13-10 at Ancient) and a 2-1 victory versus Spirit (3-13 at Dust II, 16-13 at Nuke, 25-22 at Ancient). Just like their previous encounter, Vitality routed MOUZ in a sweep (13-11 at Mirage and Dust II) to earn a spot in the semifinals.
After getting knocked down to the lower bracket by MOUZ, Spirit scored back-to-back sweeps over FaZe Clan (13-8 at Anubis, 13-9 at Nuke) and VP (13-9 at Ancient and Anubis) to grab the last Playoff spot from Group A.
Eternal Fire, NAVI, and G2 advance from Group B
Eternal Fire's rise to contender status this season continues as they claimed the top seed of Group B without dropping a single map. The Turkish squad kicked off their march to the semifinals with back-to-back sweeps over Team Liquid (13-7 at Dust II and Anubis) and G2 (13-10 at Anubis and Inferno) and cruising to the upper bracket finals.
Waiting for Eternal Fire there was a familiar foe in NAVI, who were coming off a sweep over FURIA Esports (16-12 at Anubis, 13-8 at Mirage) and a 2-1 victory over
The MongolZ (13-7 at Dust II, 1-13 at Inferno, 16-13 at Mirage). After losing all five matches they played against NAVI dating back to September 2023, Eternal Fire finally exacted revenge with a 2-0 sweep (13-9 at Inferno, 13-5 at Dust II) to become the second team in the tournament to earn a semifinals berth.
Over in the lower bracket, G2 bounced back from getting embarrassed by Eternal Fire by sweeping M80 (13-9 at Ancient, 13-11 at Inferno) and the MongolZ (13-11 at Ancient, 13-4 at Dust II) to become the sixth and final team to qualify for the BLAST Open Spring 2025 Playoffs.
With the conclusion of the Group Stage in the BLAST Studios at Copenhagen, Denmark, BLAST Open Spring 2025 will go on a three-day break as the Playoff teams fly to the MEO Arena in Lisbon, Portugal for the tournament's main event.
