BOOM Esports brought certain doom to Bonkers in the quarterfinal match-up.
The semifinals of the VCT Ascension Pacific is now decided with BOOM Esports going up against Bleed eSports while SCARZ will face off against NAOS Esports. This comes after BOOM defeated the orgless Australian team, Bonkers in a quick 2-0 series. Earlier in the day, SCARZ got the better of Fancy United Esports to secure a semifinal showdown.
Having had a decent group stage, BOOM came out guns blazing in Bonkers' map pick, Haven. The Indonesian squad picked up nine of the first 12 rounds while also winning six of their eight full-buy rounds. This gave Bonkers a steep, uphill climb in the second half. But due to BOOM's sheer dominance in the first, they only needed to win four rounds to secure game one.
Gary "blaZek1ng" Dastin was one of the standout performers in game one, securing six first kills, which goes to show how underrated he is as the entry fragger. This includes his 23 kills on Haven, putting Killjoy to great use. He also had the highest player rating of 1.52 as well as the best average combat score (ACS) of 336.
With their backs against the wall, Bonkers would have to put up the performance of a lifetime on BOOM's map pick in game two, Pearl. BOOM would go on to win the first five of seven rounds but after a timeout, Bonkers came back out by winning the next five games to take the lead into halftime. But BOOM were not deterred by it, going back and forth with Bonkers in the second half. With every round Bonkers won, BOOM would respond by winning two rounds of their own.
Given their ability to take two straight rounds three separate times, BOOM was able to win the series after going all the way with Bonkers. While BOOM will go on to the semifinals, Bonkers can leave with their heads held high. The team came into the VCT Ascension Pacific without any backing from an organisation and still managed to put on a show on the main stage.
Riley "rDeeW" Wilkinson was arguably Bonkers' best player in the second game, putting up great numbers like 19 kills to go with his 226 ACS, the highest out of all 10 players. However, it was Rizkie Adla "BerserX" Kusuma who came out as the series MVP.
The semifinals begin tomorrow with NAOS Esports going up against SCARZ at 4.00 pm GMT+7. The next semifinal series between BOOM Esports and Bleed eSports will take place at 7.00 pm GMT+7. The winners of both series will meet in the grand finals on Sunday, July 9 at 4.00 pm GMT +7.
