Day 1 recap of VALORANT at the 32nd SEA Games

Team Philippines lead the way with Vietnam and Singapore close behind.

VALORANT has made its official debut at the 32nd SEA Games yesterday with a total of six teams competing for the gold medal. And as it stands, Team Philippines is leading the charge after taking a commanding 4-0 lead on the first of two days in the group stage.

This includes a rout in its first two games against Team Indonesia and Team Malaysia, which the Philippines won comfortably. Team Philippines have also shown great versatility on three maps so far with Lotus being the standout after they won two matches in a row against Team Vietnam and the host nation, Team Cambodia.

Vietnam and Singapore are currently tied for second with a 2-1 score line. Vietnam's only loss so far have been to the Philippines while Singapore's sole loss was against last year's hosts, Vietnam. Both teams put on a show to kickstart day one with Vietnam just about edging out Singapore 14-12 on Ascent.

That wasn't Singapore's only exhilarating best-of-one though; they also got stuck in with Team Indonesia yesterday with the game going to 36 rounds with Singapore winning 19-17 at the death. Speaking of Team Indonesia, they are currently in fourth at 1-2. Lastly, there's Team Cambodia and Team Malaysia, both of whom are in fifth and sixth respectively.

Only the top four teams will make it to the final stage, which will be a single-elimination bracket. The team that finishes top of the group will face the team that places fourth while second and third will battle it out in the other bracket.

The winners of both series will go on to the grand finals whilst the losers will head down to the bronze medal match. All matches in the final stage will be a best-of-three series.
