Toxicity can be a big problem in online games. Regarding this, Blizzard wants to make changes to their in-game reporting options.
Jeff Kaplan keeps being a good sport on the forums. Today, he responded to yet another question. The poster asked: "Can you look into adding more options for reporting a player please? I rarely do it but sometimes there is no appropriate option.” To this, Kaplan replied with “We're in the process of reviewing the reporting options and penalties.”
The report options that currently exists in game is for harassment, cheating, spam and/or offensive battletag. But this might not be enough at times. Things like throwing a game or general toxic behavior do not really have a reportable option at the moment.
Other games, for example League of Legends, has plenty of ways to report players that intentionally ruins the game for others.
Some of the things that could be added as an offense could be: Feeding, (“giving” the enemy team kills by dying intentionally,) leaving/being AFK or a generally negative attitude.
A function that existed before was the “avoid player” option, which could be used if you did not want to play with/against a bad behaving player again. This tool did however, not serve the function that Blizzard wanted and they removed it in June. (People avoided players that were so good they didn’t want to play against them again.)
As for penalties, there’s not much known. It all seems to depend on what type of “crime” you have committed, how many times you’ve been reported, and how many times you’ve been penalized before.
