The Closed Beta's main goal is of course to get feedback from players to make the game even better. One feature that was suggested a lot was the ability to customize your crosshair.
Different shooters all have a variety of customization options. Some of them provide full HUD customization, but most of them at least allow for the ability to change a player's crosshair. Since the crosshair is a crucial part of the hand-eye coordination required to hit your bullets and make them count, players value the ability to customize the crosshair to their liking highly.
Because of the wide variety of different playstyles in Overwatch, there are already a lot of different crosshair images designed.

But while these will do for the average player, competitive players might approach the subject differently. In games such as Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike, the developers have enabled the possibility of designing and uploading custom crosshairs all in an effort to make the players feel as comfortable as possible. For a long time, the common opinion has been that Blizzard wouldn't be allowing this, since they prefer having very closed off systems. But this comment by Jeff Kaplan seems to suggest otherwise:
True, this is a very vague statement. Will we soon be able to upload our own crosshairs? Will they provide alternatives themselves? Or will we merely be able to change the sizing of the current ones? It seems we will find out soon.
