Price increases will vary per region and will affect all games under Riot Games.
Riot Games, the developer of popular global titles like League of Legends (LoL), VALORANT, TeamFight Tactics, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra, has announced upcoming price adjustments for their games' virtual currency, including RP and VP, across all regions. The announcement was made on Wednesday (4 September).
The said price increase will be effective on 18 September 2024, with Southeast Asia among the regions facing significant increases.
Key price changes in Southeast Asia:
Price adjustments for Riot Games' virtual currencies will also include Southeast Asia. For League of Legends PC and Teamfight Tactics, increases are significant, with Malaysia seeing a 23% rise, the Philippines 40%, Taiwan 33%, and Vietnam 41%.
Legends of Runeterra prices will go up by 16% in Malaysia, 7% in the Philippines, and 4% in India. In VALORANT, Malaysia faces a 16% increase, the Philippines 7%, and Japan 20%. Wild Rift prices will rise by 5% in Malaysia and 12% in Japan.

Limited-Time Bonus offers
To soften the impact of these price hikes, Riot Games is offering bonus RP on in-client purchases in regions where prices are increasing.
Starting 4th September at 9:00 AM PST, players can receive extra RP with their purchases. For example, in VALORANT, the 2050 VP bundle, which typically includes 1900 VP + 150 bonus VP, will now offer a total of 2200 VP during this promotional period.
Why the Changes?
Riot Games has cited the need to adjust pricing due to changes in global exchange rates and local economies.
“With exchange rates always fluctuating, it’s important to try to balance prices across regions,” the statement said. “When prices vary too widely, it opens the door for third parties to exploit these differences, using methods like VPNs and server transfers to buy currency at lower prices in one region and sell it for profit in another.”
By standardising RP costs, Riot Games hopes to maintain a fair and consistent experience for players worldwide.
“We know that these changes are especially tough for players in regions with the largest increases, and we’re not thrilled about it either,” the statement added.
These RP price adjustments reflect Riot Games' ongoing efforts to adapt to global economic shifts while ensuring fair play across all regions. Players are encouraged to take advantage of the bonus RP offers before the price changes take effect on 18 September.
