This year’s MLBB M5 World Championship will use the ROG Phone 6 starting with the M5 Wild Card in Malaysia.
Moonton Games has officially announced the MLBB M5 World Championship 2023’s tournament device: the ROG Phone 6. Both Moonton and ROG claim that the phone has been put through, “rigorous testing,” to prove its worthiness in the upcoming MLBB tournament, which sports a prize pool of $900,000.
Interestingly, this marks a change from Moonton's Mobile Legends Professional League events, such as the recently completed Season 12 in Indonesia, which usually use Samsung phones as official tournament devices. ASUS Malaysia’s business development manager Lenny Lin commented on the announcement:
At ROG, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of gaming technology. Partnering with MOONTON Games to make the ROG Phone 6 the official device for MLBB M5 2023 is a testament to our dedication to providing gamers with the ultimate gaming experience. The ROG Phone 6 is designed to deliver unparalleled performance, and we are excited to see it in action at the world championship.
Moonton Games’ head of regional esports sales Adrian Cher added:
This partnership between MOONTON Games and ASUS ROG for the MLBB M5 World Championship 2023 unites our industry-leading expertise in mobile gaming and technology. The ROG Phone 6 more than meets the demanding standards of professional gamers and reaffirms our commitment to deliver best-in-class MLBB esports experiences for our community.
The ROG Phone 6 being M5’s official tournament device is clearly the result of a sponsorship deal, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that ASUS ROG is trying to push further into the gaming scene. Their last big product launch was the handheld Steam Deck-like device ROG Ally, and that went over pretty well.
The ROG Phone 6 will make its competitive MLBB debut at the M5 Wild Card, which runs from November 23 to 26 in Malaysia. Every athlete will compete using the phone for a chance to compete in the M5 Group Stage. We’ll find out whether the ROG Phone 6 will be able to hold up under intense competition then, though it sounds like both Moonton and ROG are confident that it will.
ROG and Moonton are also releasing an MLBB-themed ROG Phone 6 with a gift box for a pricey RM2299 (around $485), including a Yu Zhong Devilcase, MLBB badge holder, an MLBB screen cleaning cloth and an AeroActive Cooler 6. ROG has released a custom design for the phone themed after Diablo Immortal in the past, but this version comes with a few more extras.
