The M6 World Championship grand finals will be a rematch between Fnatic ONIC PH and Team Liquid ID.
The penultimate day of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championship featured the last two series of the lower bracket series, with Selangor Red Giants (SRG) knocking out Team Spirit in the lower bracket semifinals before falling to Team Liquid ID in the lower bracket finals.
Now only two teams remain in contention for the 2024 MLBB world title, with Team Liquid ID earning another rematch with Fnatic ONIC PH in the best-of-seven grand finals with the hope of ending the Philippines campaign for five-straight world championships.
Here are the results for the penultimate day of M6 World Championship:
Team Liquid ID end the golden road for Selangor Red Giants
SRG faced Team Spirit in the lower bracket semifinals to start the day. Team Spirit were looking to improve on the fourth place finish that their roster achieved in the M5 World Championship with Deus Vult. However, their mission to progress further was tested by the mighty SRG, who were hoping to complete the first-ever golden road of MLBB.
Their first game was a draft battle between the opposing coaches. While Team Spirit coach Vrendon “Vren” Lin relied on Pak Anton “Hiko” Igorevich’s Beatrix to carry his team in the late game, SRG coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado focused on shutting Hiko down with an early game-focused lineup consisting of Luo Yi, Jawhead, and Hayabusa. Belerick was tasked to stop these aggressive attacks from SRG, but the flawless execution from the Malaysian squad was a task too big for the hero to handle. In the end, 13 minutes was enough for SRG to take game one.
The second game showed a more interesting draft. SRG took Vale for Mohd Norhadim Bin Mohamad “Stormie” Rizwan, but the highlight was a Natan pick for Hiko. Natan brought the magic damage needed by Team Spirit, with Alexander “Oneshot” Sharkov’s Hayabusa controlling Vincent “Innocent” Banal and Stormie. The strategy had game-winning potential for Team Spirit, but Muhammad “Yums” Suhairi and Stormie had another story for them as they found crucial pickoffs one after another, making Hiko’s life a living nightmare. Team Spirit got a chance to win the game when they won a late teamfight, but Innocent managed to turn it around to give SRG a commanding 2-0 series lead.
For the third game in a row, Arcadia took Jawhead for Yums as Team Spirit couldn't find any answer for him in the previous two games. This time, Kemiran “Sunset Lover” Kochkarov took Vexana to focus more on controlling the SRG lineup. However, once again, the early game advantage SRG got from Jawhead played a crucial role in controlling the game. Yums played the mailman role by delivering pickoff after pickoff for the Suyou and Pharsa. The game ended within 15 minutes after SRG snowballed out of control and completely swept Team Spirit.
And so, Malaysia's last hope secured a match with Team Liquid ID in the lower bracket finals to end the day. The next obstacle in SRG's golden road campaign were the champions of Indonesia, who were looking to not waste their second chance to reach the grand finals after being defeated by Fnatic ONIC Philippines in the upper bracket finals.
The first game was an all-out brawl. Team Liquid ID focused on more of a teamfight-oriented lineup with Tigreal, Hylos and Yve, while SRG relied on Yums’ Chou and Muhammad Haqqullah Bin Ahmad Shahrul “Sekys” Zaman’s Suyou to secure pickoffs. While SRG gave a good fight, it felt like they were never in control as Team Liquid ID out-macroed them with Favian “Faviannn” Putra playing the backline assassin. A well-placed Glorious Pathway was enough for Joy to end the game.
The second game saw a return of Yums’ Khufra after his astounding performances with the hero against NIP Flash and RRQ Hoshi. Team Liquid ID took Chip with their last pick as the wildcard against SRG’s dive composition. While SRG focused on trying to dive the enemy backline, Innocent’s Granger was left unprotected and a prime target for Faviann’s Suyou and Sultan “Aeron” Muhammad’s Moskov. With no one to protect their damage dealer, SRG were once again outclassed by Team Liquid ID as the latter took a decisive 2-0 series lead.
Learning from their mistakes in the previous games, SRG played a protect-the-president composition with Innocent’s Bruno as the centerpiece. Team Liquid ID, however, took all their signature heroes with Natan, Khaleed, Yve, Suyou, and Hilda. SRG's plan worked on paper, but Khaleed, Hilda, and Suyou still had the dive capabilities needed to assassinate Innocent. Meanwhile, Yve and Natan melted the frontline with their combination of crowd control and percentage-based damage. In the end, a clean 3-0 victory for Team Liquid ID ended the golden road journey of SRG.
