Todak crushed Selangor Red Giants (SRG) in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia Season 14 Playoffs, dropping the undisputed favourites of the tournament into the lower bracket.
Muhammad "CikuGais" Fuad and his teammates surprised the audience with a 3-1 rout, as they almost cleanly swept SRG were it not for Muhammad “Sekys” Zaman and John "Innocent" Banal's heroics in game three.
The veterans of MPL Malaysia started the series strong with an excellent performance from Muhammad “Zaed” Hakimi on a surprise pick X.Borg. The Todak jungler’s positioning ensured that Mark "Kramm" Rusiana and Hazziq "Stormie" Rizwan had difficulty opening fights. With teamfight control in Todak’s hands, it was only a matter of time until CikuGais’ Beatrix came online to take game one.
All hell broke loose in game two. While a double mage composition wasn’t something unique with Harith played in the gold lane, the MPL Malaysia double mage special with Lunox and Zhuxin graced the scene. CikuGais picked Lunox on the gold lane, where he successfully stunned the enemy’s draft and completely erased the threat of the enemy Ling. In the end, the draft was the key to Todak’s game two victory.
In game three, Todak’s gameplan looked more orthodox compared to their previous compositions. CikuGais picked Irithel on the gold lane while Zahyed played an out-of-meta Harley. The plan was to crush the opposition early using Irithel's strong mid-game and Harley's ridiculous damage to erase the gold lane. But Todak's strategy didn't go smoothly and, thanks in large part to Sekys and Zaman, SRG took one game.
Game four saw the return of Zhuxin and Lunox for Todak while SRG brought an aggressive lineup with Zhask, Benedetta, and Hayabusa. The early game was a show of micro prowess from both of the teams. However, when SRG couldn’t secure the early and mid-game, Todak found their chance and claimed the win in just under 14 minutes to win the series 3-1.
Ciku talked with GosuGamers after their win about the secret to their performance against SRG, saying everybody here has the same objective and shouldn’t be afraid of anyone. He added that they are all humans and make mistakes, so just playing their own game will be the key to victory.
Ajwad "Kuja" Yusof, Todak’s coach, had a more technical explanation as he said the key to victory is the squad’s teamwork. He also said that they lowered their ego as low as they could and implemented every good input they received in order to be more prepared against every opponent they faced.
Todak will wait for the conclusion of the match between RED Esports MY and Team Vamos to know their opponent in the upper bracket finals. Meanwhile, SRG must play in the lower bracket after their loss against Todak.
