While getting nearer to the start of the M6 World Championship, the grandest stage of Mobile Legends announced the abandonment of the group stage in favour of a Swiss format to decide who advances to the playoffs. Sixteen teams will participate in this stage, and eight teams will be eliminated from the tournament.
With the Swiss format, every team will have a chance to play against all other teams with the goal of getting three wins to secure a spot in the playoffs. However, if a team loses thrice, they will face elimination and end their journey in the M6 World Championship.
What is the Swiss format in the M6 World Championship?
Every team will play a maximum of five rounds to determine their fate in the tournament.
In each round, every team will draw its opponent by themselves without an inclusion from an outside party. The teams will determine their fate and journey on the stage. Will lady luck be on their side?
Teams with the same score will match each other in each round. The first round will be a best-of-one battle of sixteen teams to determine the first eight teams that get the first win and loss. In the second round, teams with a 1-0 score will face another team with the same score, and so will the teams with a 0-1 score in a best-of-one series.
Every elimination or qualifying series will be a best-of-three starting from the third round. The stage will continue until all sixteen teams determine their journey, whether qualified or eliminated.
With the introduction of the Swiss format, it will be interesting to see teams from the same nation duke each other to secure promotion—no more talks about easy groups or groups of death. Every team must prove they are worthy to advance to the next stage or have their journey end early.
