MSC 2024’s favourite and defending champion, Fnatic ONIC, failed to advance to the playoff after a disappointing result on Day 4 of the group stage. On the day when their life in the tournament is on the line, they failed to secure a win with a loss against See You Soon from Cambodia and a draw against
Selangor Red Giants.
On the other hand, Selangor Red Giants and See You Soon secured a playoff spot after a stellar day, particularly the Cambodian team, which defeated Fnatic ONIC and Team Falcons 2-0. Selangor Red Giants also had a good run in the day, winning against Team Falcons and securing a draw against Fnatic ONIC.
See You Soon’s success is a story to behold. They were penalised for their incident with Selangor Red Giants on day 1 of the group stage. From a draw against SRG, the penalty turned the result into a loss. However, they got two wins from two matches to secure a spot in the playoff.
During the post-match conference, See You Soon stated they wanted a rematch against Selangor Red Giants in the playoff to prove their loss was a fluke and to settle which team is better.
SRG also had a smooth experience in the group stage, as they got two wins and a draw to finish at the top of the table. With their victory secured when getting the first win against Fnatic ONIC, SRG benched Kramm and played Gojes in the EXP lane to give him some game time.
The other team that failed to secure a spot in the playoff were the hometown team, Team Falcons. They failed to get a single win in the tournament, losing every match on the group stage. This made both MENA teams not record a single victory in the tournament after Twisted Minds also failed to get one game from their opponents in the MSC 2024.
The MSC 2024 will return for the final day of the group stage with Group D consisting of the M5 champion Falcons AP.Bren,
Xianyou Gaming from China,
Falcon Esports from Myanmar, and NACT Spring champion
Cloud9.
