Following the Wildcard Tournament over the recent weekend, the wait was over and the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup 2024 got underway today, with each and every one of the sixteen teams playing their first best-of-two series. For Groups C and D, which had some of the tournament favourites, including the two teams from the Philippines, it was business as usual, with clean sweeps and no real surprises.
Southeast Asia is ahead of the pack
Falcons AP.Bren and Xianyou Gaming got MSC 2024 off to an intense start, with both teams hoping to get a solid foundation going forward in the Group Stage. However, with Bren being the far more experienced team, it was not too difficult for them to take both games. In game one it was Marco “SUPER MARCO” Stephens Roger to go 6/0/2 in a quick domination – while game two saw a far better one from the Chinese team. Even with Kiel “Kielvj” Harnandezs Arlott looking rather brilliant, the experience of Bren gave them the eventual victory.
Liquid Echo gave the hometown team the same treatment, as Twisted Minds felt the full force of the PH MLBB team in Group C. The quick game one win was trounced by a sub-11-minute game two, as ECHO looked to take their new partnership with Liquid to the top of the Esports World Cup and MSC.
Cloud9was next into the Land of Dawn, where they faced off against Falcon Esports, and it was a great series between the two teams. Although the North Americans held a lead in both games, looking primed to win, they had trouble closing things out, which gave the Myanmar stars the perfect opportunity to take both victories. With both regions having their representatives eliminated at the Group Stage, this was a great start for Falcon, who will now hope to keep the win streak going for the rest of the event.
Lastly for Group C was the Wildcard champions, HomeBois, to get their MSC 2024 underway, as they went up against Team Spirit. This was the Malaysian team's chance to get some revenge over TS, who was part of the reason for their elimination from the M5 World Championship under the name of Deus Vult back then. This time Kid Bomba and the BF team were no match for an extremely strong HB team, who did not give them a chance to play anything close to what we saw from them previously.
With that, the first day of MSC 2024 came to an end for Groups C and D, with the SEA teams having very few problems in taking down their international opponents across the board. However, there is still a long way to go and the teams will be back in action on July 5th and July 7th, respectively, as each group will find its top 2 teams and its two eliminated teams.
