A few weeks ago, we saw the first qualifier to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup 2024, as Zino Zenith locked themselves into the Wild Card Tournament. This past weekend saw even more teams securing their places in the Esports World Cup’s MLBB event, with the Mobile Legends Professional League in Latin America coming to an end. With MPL LATAM given two spots in the upcoming tournament – one in the main event and one for the Wild Card, both Entity7 and RRQ Akira were already set to be heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later this year.

Having dominated the South American scene for some time, RRQ Akira were the definite favourites to take the top spot in MPL LATAM Season 1, especially after dominating MPL Brazil from Season 2 through to Season 5. The team’s accolades in their region are beyond belief, but the international stage has definitely not been kind to them. For Entity7, things are slightly different, with a team built from the remnants of S11 Gaming – some with international experience but without the achievements of RRQ.

Even though on paper the two teams were mismatched, both had done what was needed to reach the grand finals and if we know anything about the South American teams, they do not surrender just because their opponent may be stronger. With that said, it was still RRQ Akira that took the win, but it was not made easy by Entity7, who had glimmers of a comeback on many occasions.

While the 4-2 scoreline means that RRQ Akira will be the champions of MPL LATAM Season 1, it also means that they are the first team to qualify for the MLBB MSC 2024 Group Stage. For Entity7, their time in the sun has only just begun, as they will move into the MSC Wild Card Tournament and get a chance to fight for a spot in the Group Stage. More teams will be qualifying soon, with the Turkish Championship and the North American Challenger Tournament culminating over the coming weeks.
