MPL PH Season 13: The slow demise of Blacklist International

MPL PH has already completed three weeks of its Regular Season, and Blacklist International has fallen far off the pace this time around.

Although we had a week’s break from the Mobile Legends Professional League in the Philippines, Season 13 returned for its third week of Regular Season action with the teams fighting to reach the Playoffs and hopefully secure a spot at the Mid-Season Cup (MSC). On one side, we have seen the rise of ONIC Philippines, while ECHO and AP.Bren continues to dominate – but on the other, we have also witnessed a downfall of Blacklist International.

Blacklist’s less-than-stellar start

While Blacklist has been a little off the mark for a few seasons now, this has probably been one of their worst starts to a Regular Season for some time. In Season 12, they were able to take down AP.Bren in the opening weeks, although losing a few games here and there – but now they are struggling to keep their heads out of the elimination zone, with only two victories from six series. The biggest shock was their loss to TNC Pro Team in Week 2, with Week 3 seeing another two losses as they float perilously close to the bottom two.

While we still have four weeks of Regular Season action remaining, this leaves the once champions with a total of eight series to pull things together. Now without Renejay and their deadly V33Wise duo, Blacklist seems to be missing a key piece in their puzzle – even with a team that should be dominating on paper. Although the team’s hero choices are solid at times, when they get on the right end of the draft, issues arise and the team fails to close out any games, especially against the likes of Bren, ONIC, or ECHO.

MPL PH Season 13 continues this coming weekend, with Blacklist facing off against RSG Philippines and AP.Bren again – both series which they need to show some resilience in. However, with Bren currently having dropped only a single game (against ECHO), they will likely remain unbeaten through the Regular Season. Blacklist’s efforts should be focused on claiming a crucial victory over RSG, who have not looked at their best at times. There may be a long way to go in the Regular Season, but could this be the one where Blacklist meet their demise?
