It was an extremely intense day of playoff action from the Mobile Legends Professional League’s twelfth season in Indonesia, which saw two absolutely epic best-of-five series go the distance. As we countdown the final three days left in the competition, one question on everyone’s mind is which team will become the champion, and who will be heading to the M5 World Championship to represent Indonesia in December.
RRQ’s ship takes on water
Although their Regular Season was not perfect, Rex Regum Qeon made their potential return to the top right off the bat in Season 12 – having stumbled a long way down in Season 11. The additions of both Ferxiic and Naomi to their roster on the back of Alberttt’s departure seem to have brought a completely new face to the team, as they went in search of glory. A second-place finish in the Regular Season was almost expected, with ONIC Esports manning the top spot, as usual – but the playoffs have already gone awry for RRQ.
With Geek Fam ID having made their way through the first round of playoff eliminations, things did not begin well, with two dropped games at the hands of RRQ. It looked as though GFID were heading into the lower bracket, but suddenly the turnaround was on, with two extremely quick games of 12 and 13 minutes to tie the series. Game five saw the Ruby come out from GFID, with a Yu Zhong right behind as they managed to snatch the win away right from the clutches of RRQ.
ONIC’s near miss
Although ONIC Esports could look completely unstoppable on paper, and in their play,
Bigetron Alpha almost proved the theory incorrect in the second series of the day. In a much more back-and-forth series, both teams fought to gain the advantage, but after four games, it was all tied up at 2-2. Unfortunately for The Robots, they just could not find their footing to close out a huge upset, as ONIC marched into the upper bracket finals to face off against the unlikely GFID.
With Day 2 out the way, we look forward to Day 3, which will see another elimination as RRQ and BTR go head-to-head to kick things off, while GFID and ONIC will battle it out to find the first ID representative heading to M5 and the first grand finalist of Season 12.
