This rookie lineup brims with potential. Can the new champions of Indonesia bring back glory to their country?
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championship is set to kick off on November 21, with 23 of the best MLBB teams from all across the world fighting to claim the lion's share of a $1 million prize pool and this year's MLBB world title. In this series, we'll be taking a look at all the teams that qualified for the Swiss Stage and their chances of becoming the 2024 MLBB world champions.
The eighth entry in our series will feature the current champions of Indonesia in Team Liquid ID, a team that notably features three rookies and five debutants in the M World Series.
Team Liquid ID roster:
- Aldhia “Aran” Aranda
- Yehezkiel “Yehezkiel” Wiseman
- Sultan “Aeron” Muhammad
- Favian “Faviannn” Putra
- Christian “Widy” Hartono
- Leonardo Prasetyo “Kabuki” Agung
The champion of Indonesia trying to reclaim lost glory
Team Liquid ID is one of the most surprising teams to qualify for the M6 World Championship, as everybody predicted Fnatic ONIC to win the MLBB Professional League (MPL) Indonesia Season 14 to avenge their loss in the 2024 MLBB Mid Season Cup. However, when one team didn't perform, others would take their spot, and it was the cavalry that successfully did just that.
Team Liquid ID was the result of global esports organisation Team Liquid's expansion attempt to MLBB. They acquired AURA Esports and ECHO on May 21, with the Indonesian branch becoming Team Liquid ID and the Philippine branch becoming Team Liquid PH. Team Liquid ID retained the previous lineup because of their commitment to MPL ID Season 13. That season, Team Liquid ID ended the tournament with a 5th-6th place finish.
After the conclusion of MPL Indonesia Season 13, they recruited James “Jeymz” Gloria to become Yawi's partner. However, that experiment didn't work out as they were beaten 0-2 twice in the first week of the Regular Season. Realizing their experiment didn't work, Team Liquid ID head coach Dolly “SaintDeLucaz” Pelo brought in three players from their Academy team – Yehezkiel, Faviannn, and Widy – starting in the second week.
This time, they hit the jackpot. From Week 2 onwards, Team Liquid ID looked near perfect as they raked win after win to end the Regular Season as the second seed with a 12-4 match record.
Coming into the Playoffs as one of the favourites, Team Liquid ID started strong with a 3-2 win against Bigetron Alpha, completing their revenge on the red android. However, they were beaten once again by Regular Season first seed RRQ Hoshi in the upper bracket finals.
But after defeating Bigetron Alpha once more in the lower bracket finals, this time with a 3-0 sweep, Team Liquid ID headed for a rematch with RRQ Hoshi in the grand finals riding high on their momentum. What happened in the last match of the tournament was an instant classic, as both teams threw haymakers in back-and-forth fights that saw the series go to a full seven games.
When the dust settled, the team filled with rookies won against the king of kings with a 4-3 scoreline, Team Liquid ID thus secured themselves a slot in the M6 World Championship and cemented themselves as one of the great squads that won the coveted MPL Indonesia title. Now the world waits to see if this rookie squad can continue their historic rise by bringing the MLBB world championship back to Indonesia after five years.
