Aletaha will be parting ways with Riot Games after over 12 years with the company.
Naz Aletaha, the Global Head of League of Legends (LoL) Esports at Riot Games, has announced that she will be leaving the company in a few months to pursue new opportunities.
Aletaha shared the news in a heartfelt statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (30 July), marking the end of a 12.5-year tenure with the company.
“This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right time for me to explore new horizons. I’ll be taking the next few months to transition the team before leaving the company by the fall,” she said in her statement.
The decision came after Aletaha took a sabbatical early in February of this year. Chris Greeley, the Global Head of Strategy for LoL Esports, will succeed Aletaha. Greeley has been with Riot for nearly eight years and has been heading the LoL Esports strategy for the last two years.
Naz Aletaha’s admiration for her colleagues at Riot Games was evident throughout her statement, where she highlighted the profound impact they had on her career and life.
"There’s a palpable, contagious sort of passion that Rioters share. It’s why I joined Riot in the first place back in 2012," Aletaha remarked, emphasising how this shared passion has been a constant source of inspiration for her.
"More than a decade and lots of growth later, that passion still shines through every team, function, and office,” she added.
Aletaha expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside such a talented group, noting, “You’ve inspired me every day, and I cannot thank you enough for the years of camaraderie and all you’ve taught me.”
Her appreciation extended beyond her immediate team to include team organizations, pro players, on-air talent, streamers, sponsors, and the entire League of Legends community.
Aletaha's journey with Riot Games began in 2012 when she joined as the Senior Manager of B2B Payments. After two years in that role, she was promoted to Head of Global Esports Partnerships & Business Development, a position she held for seven years.
In 2021, she was appointed Global Head of League of Legends Esports, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of competitive gaming.
Before her tenure at Riot Games, Aletaha worked at industry giants like Activision Blizzard, where she had various retail marketing leadership roles from 2007 to 2011, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, where she served as a financial analyst from 2006 to 2007.
