Rekkles is now a part of the T1 Academy team.
It is now official and finalised — Four-time world champions T1 have signed LEC legend, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson to its roster, albeit the T1 Esports Academy team. Famed for being an iconic midlaner during his heyday with Fnatic, Rekkles took up the support position during the LEC Winter and Spring Split this year and will be assuming the same role in South Korea.
After T1 resigned its starting roster that lifted the Summoner's Cup a month ago to new contracts, rumours of the LCK org signing the legendary LEC star to its team seemed farfetched and unlikely at best. However, that has all been disproven as Rekkles will be participating in the T1 Esports Academy, a rather humbling move for a player of his stature.
This could bode well for both parties as Rekkles will bring experience in abundance for a young team that is trying to make its mark in the LCK. And given that he is in a new role and in a new environment, this would be the perfect opportunity for him to put his support plays to great use. Changing roles in the top-tier level would no doubt prove to be a great feat to overcome given that you have very little room for error.
But in the LCK Academy Series, it could be the perfect place for him to hone his skills and talents as a support player. And with the right support and backroom staff, both of which T1 are well-known for, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Rekkles shine in his new role and maybe even get called up to the T1 Challengers squad and probably its main roster at some point too.
