The reigning LCK champions have brought in three new players to its line-up.
December has just started and we already have the sixth LCK team that finalised its roster for the 2024 season. Reigning LCK champions Gen.G have brought in the likes of Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, who last lifted the Summoner's Cup back in 2020, who will be bringing a new level of experience and expertise to the jungle role.
Gen.G have also added toplaner Kim “Kiin” Gi-in to the mix as well as the return of support player, Siwoo “Lehends” Son, who last played for the org during the 2022 season. They've also made sure to resign midlaner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, arguably one of the best in the region.
The org has grown over the last few years that saw them lift the LCK title three times since Summer 2022. Gen.G had lost the Spring Split that year to T1 but ever since then, Gen.G have had their number in three straight grand finals. For this season alone, they faced T1 twice in the Spring and Summer Split finals and have won six games with only a single loss.
But despite all of its domestic success as well as being the undisputed champions of the LCK, Gen.G have never made it to the grand finals of an international event. This season was the org's first-ever appearance at the Mid-Season Invitational where they finished fourth after falling to Bilibili Gaming. And at Worlds just last month, Gen.G fell to BLG once again that saw them bow out of the tournament on home soil in the quarter-final playoffs bracket.
However, the addition of Canyon will bring a different perspective of the jungle role. While he will fill some big shoes in the form of Wang-Ho “Peanut” Han, who has already moved on over to Hanwha Life Esports. In fact, all three of the players that left Gen.G went to HLE. Canyon is the only player on the current Gen.G squad to have won a world championship and his experience at the highest level can only bring the org one step closer to lifting the Summoner's Cup.
Both Kiin and Lehends join Gen.G after a one-season stint with KT Rolster, who were undoubtedly the third-best team in the LCK this year. This season was only KT's third time at Worlds with the last coming in 2018 but they managed to keep the trend going with a third quarter-final exit in a row.
