Gen.G Esports defeated G2 Esports to become the second team to qualify to the Knockout Stage of Worlds 2023.
The undisputed LCK champions, Gen.G Esports have booked its spot to the Knockout Stage of Worlds 2023 after a clean 2-0 victory over G2 Esports. Gen.G has now become the second team to make it through and will join JD Gaming as they await the rest of the Swiss Stage to end.
As for G2, they will drop to the 2-1 bracket of the fourth round where they will face LNG Esports, who lost to JDG earlier today. Despite having already bested teams from both the LCK and the LPL, G2 was no match for Gen.G when it mattered most.

However, it wasn't for a lack of trying as it was G2 who started the first game on the front foot. G2 had the greater movement around the map via its jungler and support, who were able to disrupt Gen.G's flow in the opening 10 minutes. It also helped to boost morale when Rasmus "Caps" Winther was able to get a solo kill first blood on Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon.
Sadly, G2's power spike would begin to fade as the game wore on as Gen.G was able to get themselves back into the game. Chovy would also go on to rack up eight kills after his only death early on alongside a quadra kill for his troubles. Of course, he did have plenty of help, particularly Wang-Ho "Peanut" Han and Hwan-joong "Delight" Yoo who had double-digit assists to end the game.
G2 ended the first game with just five kills to its name as Caps would end up with six deaths at the end, which was a brutal way to end game one. Things inevitably got worse for G2 in the second game, even after an early first blood in the bottom lane. But it was all for naught as G2 ended up with six kills the whole game, only one more from the first. Both Peanut and Delight were a menace once again as they were a constant threat to G2.
And while Chovy had another great game for Gen.G, it was Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan who stepped up for the team with the bulk of the kills. His Xayah brought in eight kills for Gen.G to go along with his triple kill. It has also been proven time and again at Worlds 2023 that the Xayah-Rakan combo is one of the better pairings for the bottom lane.
Gen.G Esports will now get over a week off until the start of the Knockout Stage on November 2 alongside JD Gaming. And it's not over just yet for G2 Esports as they will be playing against LNG Esports tomorrow in the 2-1 bracket of the fourth round to determine the third team to make it through.
