Shopify Rebellion will be part of the LCS in the 2024 season after it acquired TSM's slot in the franchised league.
It has been confirmed that Shopify Rebellion have acquired TSM's franchise spot in the LCS and is expected to take place in the 2024 season. SR confirmed the takeover of TSM's spot in the LCS via social media, which was reported to have cost them around $10 million, according to Kellen Browning of The New York Times.
We have now come full circle following the breaking news back in May of TSM imminent departure from North America to compete in a different region in the new season. This marks the second esports organisation to leave the LCS this year with Counter Logic Gaming being the first earlier this season. CLG soon got acquired by NRG, who will be making its Worlds 2023 debut as well.
In the announcement, SR also said that it will acquire the former TSM roster to play under its banner for the upcoming 2024 season. However, multiple members of the roster have contracts that will expire at the end of this season. SR will more than likely have to fork out huge sums to either resign its current roster or to pick up free agents during the off-season.
SR have steadily become a household name over the years in North America, despite its relatively young age. Its home to multiple esports teams, including Dota 2, VALORANT, and Rocket League to name a few. This will be the organisation's second's roster in a Riot Games' esports title.
