Worlds2022: Chiefs Esports Club eliminated from Play-Ins after losing to Beyond Gaming

Chiefs Esports Club has been eliminated after going 0-4 in the Play-ins.

The bottom two teams in the Group A standings for the Play-ins went up against one another in Day 3, for a chance to vault over the other team and climb up the ranks. Beyond Gaming ended up putting Chiefs Esports Club down for another loss, giving the former team a step up in the standings at 2-2 points. Chiefs on the other hand, has been knocked out of the Play-ins entirely at 0-4.

Beyond started this match at 1-2 points, while Chiefs started this match at 0-3 - putting Chiefs in a worse position, but Beyond had plenty to make up for on its end too. Neither team could afford a loss at this point. The match kicked off with a series of kills, after Beyond scored First Blood against Chiefs’ Arthur and went after Aladoric for good measure. This gave Chiefs an early head start, though Beyond had plenty of time left to take that lead back. Chiefs’ Arthur proved it by scoring a kill against Wako just a few minutes later, too.

A very slow midgame saw Beyond hold onto its lead with 7-4 kills, while Chiefs were stuck in a 5K gold deficit. Beyond’s Minji proved himself to be practically unstoppable in another teamfight at the 22-minute mark, having scored multiple kills already and going on to rack up more. Beyond got three more kills while fighting over the Baron, pushing Chiefs back and getting that Baron while cementing its lead. Beyond also had four turrets down by this point to Chiefs’ zero.

This ended up being one of the shorter matches of the day. Chiefs just entirely gave up its endgame run to Beyond, allowing them to steamroll the base and score a win with very little resistance. Beyond can use this win to start climbing up the standings, but Chiefs now has to go home after taking four losses in the row. What’s interesting to note is that if Beyond, DetonatioN FocusMe and LOUD all win tomorrow, we’ll get a neat four-way tiebreaker set up for the Play-ins!

Next up, we’re seeing Istanbul Wildcats versus Royal Never Give Up.
