All they needed was some focus.
It was a rough first day for DetonatioN FocusMe but they are now back on track after a much-needed morale-boosting win against Chiefs Esports Club. DFM already went through a severe loss against Fnatic earlier today but managed to turn things around with this win. As for the Chiefs, they are now at the bottom of Group A.
All eyes will be on them tomorrow as their next two games will be against Evil Geniuses and Beyond Gaming. As for DFM, they will be BYG's first opponent of the day tomorrow. While both teams still don't look quite so settled on the Play-In Stage just yet, DFM has at least been able to bring some positive energy back into the camp.
As both teams badly needed a win, it was the Chiefs who struck first, getting the first blood. Unfortunately, things instantly took a turn for the worst with Lee "Yaharong" Chan-Ju's timely rotation on Azir to the bottom lane, allowing DFM to claim three kills in response. The Chiefs finally managed to get a few more kills of their own much later on DFM's top lane duo. Sadly, it didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things as it gave DFM time and space to push out the lanes even further.
Yaharong was proving to be the superior midlaner in the match, being able to solo kill James "Tally" Shute Seraphine with a perfect combo. Sometime later, the Chiefs tried to take their first drake of the game and while they were successful in doing so, it came with a price. A perfect initiation from Lee "Harp" Ji-yoong with Rell allowed DFM to slice through the Chiefs' defences with ease. While DFM did lose Yaharong, they did take four from the LCO champions.
After breaking all of the Chiefs' outer turrets, the Chiefs were desperate to get something back and they managed to catch a retreating DFM in the woods, taking three kills to their name. The Chiefs were holding on to dear life, trading kill after kill with DFM, knowing that anything mattered at that point. Once both teams had all five members up once again, they soon clashed in the middle lane with another great initiation from Harp, giving the rest of DFM an opening to take advantage.
This was followed up by some superb play from both Yaharong and Yuta "Yutapon" Sugiura with Kai'Sa. Try as they might, the Chiefs were too far behind at that point and got team wiped without any kills of their own. Even Shunsuke "Evi" Murase On Kennen managed to solo kill Tally, living with just a sliver of HP. This made it easy for DFM to head straight for the Nexus with no one left to defend it.
With both minor regions in action, it's slowly looking like the LJL could be a worthy contender in a few more years. DFM has been one of the more unstoppable teams from the region when they get it right. While the LCO looks promising as well, they will need to do a lot more before they get there.
