Riot Games and Orbit Books have come together to create Ruination, the first novelisation set in the League of Legends universe.
Arcane was one of Riot Games' most ambitious projects and it paid off with nine Annie Awards. Riot's latest project includes a major publishing deal with Orbit Books to publish the first-ever novelisation set in the League of Legends Universe. Written by Anthony Reynolds, Principal Writer at Riot Games, Ruination tells the story of Kalista - a military general to King Viego - who searches for a legendary realm that may have access to ancient magic, the only way to cure the poisoned Queen Isolde.
The novel is slated to release in September 2022 by Orbit Books in both the UK and the US in various forms like print, ebooks, and audio editions, all of which will be distributed internationally. Ruination is also expected to be translated for all major international markets with publication dates set to be announced in the future.
Stories play such an important role in exploring our world and champions in deep and meaningful ways. This is a foundational story for Runeterra, and will shed new light on the events that shape some of its most pivotal characters. We are thrilled that Orbit will be bringing this to life for our fans.
Ashley Maidy, Head of Consumer Products for Riot Games.
Orbit Books have been around since the 1970s and specialise in both science fiction and fantasy novels. A division of Lagardère Publishing, it's a no-brainer to see why they have decided to team up with Riot for a new project.
While Arcane appealed to the wider general audience who are fans of the game, Ruination will be targetted towards a more niche group; one that is fond of fantasy novels that tell the tale of new lore within League of Legends.
While there isn't much else to go on about Ruination as of right now, expect it to hit the bookshelves of major stores come September 2022.
