Unfortunate events strike for Vici Gaming as their support Cho “Mata” Sehyeong catches a sudden a case of acute appendicitis amidst the events of the Demacia Cup tournament. The team will have no choice but to forfeit.
Today was meant to mark the quarterfinal matches for the Demacia Cup between Invictus Gaming vs Vici Gaming, who would be facing off against the winners of Edward Gaming vs Team WE. Due to Mata’s hospitalization caused by the crippling illness, Invictus Gaming will get a free pass to the semifinals. Vici Gaming issued an apology to their fans for the disappointment, hoping to understand the unfortunate circumstances.
What does that mean for Vici Gaming’s future? Vici is currently narrowly avoiding relegations, being placed 8th overall in the LPL standings. With their support unable to compete, the team will need to find a quick substitution if they wish to stay in the running for Worlds playoffs. In the mean time, forfeiting the Demacia Cup means losing out on the prize pool. Currently EDG stands highest chance of winning among viewers, being 1st overall in LPL alongside Qiao Gu and still riding strong after their victory at MSI.
