Dan "Alchemixt" Walton will be managing his own team, “Illuminati”, signing several top ladder players under the brand.
Alchemixt has been one of the veteran players on the Hearthstone scene since its early days. Originally on team Don’t Kick My Robot, Alchemixt gathered fame during the IHearthU King of the Hill days, winning four in a row. He was subsequently signed by bigger organizations as Team Curse picked him up in April 2014. After a six month stay with the flames, Alchemixt left to join Complexity Gaming in November of the same year. With the latter two teams, he would place top eight in the $60,000 WEC 2014 event and finish first in the first HearthStats League for 2015.
Recent events, however, led to the former King of the Hill announcing his retirement from competitive Hearthstone. In April, Alchemixt suffered a permanent ban on his Hearthstone account due to win-trading and despite his and Complexity’s attempts to appeal, Blizzard’s decision remained final.
Today, Alchemixt makes his return to competitive Hearthstone, though not as a player but as manager. Walton will be leading a team of four, consisting of Matt “Dart” Orgel, David “ProtoHype” Kunze, Case “Koyuki” Kiyonaga and Brian “Th3Rat” Courtade.
Each of the quartet is well known to the competitive community. The original Paladin revolutionist, Koyuki has appeared in the ESGN Fight Night series and was widely regarded as the best Uther player of the early days of Hearthstone. On the other hand, Dart, Th3Rat and Protohype are all top ladder players, each in the top 50 standings for the World Championship, Dart currently highest at #23.
When approached for comment on his return, Alchemixt answered that he never intended to quit the scene altogether, merely switch careers. The team, in fact, is something he’s intended to do for a while.
