Players Successfully Stand Up to PartyPoker Rake Cap Changes

This week, PartyPoker announced changes to the method by which they calculate and apportion rake while increasing the cap for the maximum per hand rake collected at the mid and higher limits. Poker players are known to not appreciate changes, especially ones that affect their profit. The player in many of the mid and high stakes games organized a sit-out where they occupied many seats but didn't play to express their protest. In the end PartyPoker reversed the maximum cap on the total raked from pots to appease the players.

PartyPoker issued a statement that indicated that they would go ahead with the planned change from the "dealt" method to "weighted contribution" method" while delaying and possibly canceling the new rake cap structure altogether.

The levels most affected by the change in rake caps were $3/$6 up to $10/$20 who include many of the professional and big volume players that sites value. Some players indicated the changes, if implemented, would have increased rake for the affected players by up to 45%.

Players will now have to adjust to the new rake apportionment to factor by their bets as a percentage of played hands, rather than just being dealt into a hand as before. The new method rewards active and loose players at the expense of tight players.
