The leaks also include the alleged release window of the Nintendo Switch successor.

Rumours and leaks surrounding Nintendo’s highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console have been circulating extensively over the past year, and fresh reports now suggest an imminent reveal. This comes from a leak first reported by NatetheHate on YouTube, where he claimed that Nintendo is preparing to unveil the Switch 2 on 16 January (Thursday).

NatetheHate mentioned in his report that “the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself." A separate software reveal is planned for late February or early March, around a month or two later. On top of all this, he added that the Nintendo Switch 2 may launch in May or June 2025. The Verge's Tom Warren later corroborated the 16 January reveal date, followed by Eurogamer, lending the report more credence.

Leaks surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 have been abundant in recent weeks. Back in December, images of the alleged Switch 2 Joy-Cons circulated online. Some accessory makers also featured images of the future console on their websites in the same month. Then, a dummy model was spotted at the CES 2025, presented by gaming accessory maker Genki at its booth. Genki also put up a detailed video showing off a mockup of the console on its website.

Genki initially claimed that the mockup was an accurate depiction of the Switch 2. However, according to a report by IGN, Genki retracted its statement after being approached by Nintendo’s lawyers at the CES booth. The company admitted that the mockup was only based on leaks found online. As such, all current leaks remain speculative, and could be subject to change or outright debunking.

Nintendo previously said a formal announcement is expected by March 2025, but fans will have to wait and see if the leaks about this week’s reveal are true. The company had already previously confirmed in November 2024 that the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor will feature backwards compatibility, but it remain tight-lipped about new titles coming to the new console.
