Sunday and Tingyun’s Fugue form return as playable characters
Sunday
After facing defeat at the conclusion of the Penacony Trailblaze Missions, Sunday makes his return as a playable character wielding the Imaginary element and – ironically – following the Path of Harmony.
Sunday will excel in hypercarry teams as he can advance the action and boost the damage of a single ally with his skill. Meanwhile, his ultimate will let him regenerate energy for one ally and boost their Crit DMG. Sunday will also have more synergy with characters that have Summons – the ones already released include Topaz, Jing Yuan, and Lingsha – as his skill will have a stronger effect on them.
Fugue
Our beloved Foxian Tingyun has escaped death at the hands of the Lord Ravager Phantylia, and with the help of Ruan Mei, has returned in a new form known as ‘Fugue’. Fugue wields the Fire element and follows the Path of Nihility, designed to be a new support character for Break-focused teams.
When Fugue is on the field, enemies will have an additional Toughness bar that appears once they have been Weakness Broken. The additional Toughness bar can then be Weakness Broken again to deal even more damage. Meanwhile, Fugue’s skill also increases a single ally’s Break Effect while giving her a Blast-type enhanced basic attack. Her ultimate will also deal damage to all enemies and reduce their Toughness regardless of their elemental weakness.
Sunday’s banner will run in the first half of Version 2.7 alongside a rerun for the 5-star Lightning Erudition character Jing Yuan. Meanwhile, Fugue’s banner will be featured in the second half alongside a rerun for the 5-star Fire Destruction character Firefly.
New Trailblaze Mission
Version 2.7 will advance the game’s story in the form of a new Trailblaze Mission: ‘A New Venture on the Eighth Dawn’. In this next chapter of the story, Himeko seeks information about Amphoreus ahead of the Astral Express’ journey there while still in Penacony. The Astral Express Crew will then encounter Sunday, who has escaped from his captivity thanks to some mysterious benefactors.
Will the Astral Express Crew find an enemy in Sunday once again? Or perhaps, after his defeat, he is now willing to become an ally? We can’t wait to find out more! A new Story Recap function has also been added to help players refresh their memory on what has happened in the story so far before continuing their journey.
New events, plus the Trailblazer gets their own room
Version 2.7’s main event, Cosmic Home Decor Guide, will see the Astral Express open up and let players explore the Party Car. On the second floor of the Party Car, an old storage room has also been repurposed to become the Trailblazer’s very own room. However, they will have to assist Pom-Pom in a variety of chores first before they can decorate it.
There will also be the ‘Between the Frames’ photo event, where the Trailblazer will act as March 7th’s assistant as she participates in a photography exhibition in Penacony. Of course, there will be reruns for the “Gift of Odyssey” log-in event for free Star Rail Special Passes, as well as the “Planar Fissure” and “Garden of Plenty” events for acquiring more relics and enhancement materials.
And that’s not all, players will also be given a Standard 5-star Selector ticket, which lets them get one of the following free standard 5-star characters of their choice: Bailu, Bronya, Clara, Gepard, Himeko, Welt Yang, and Yanqing.
Divergent Universe, Pure Fiction, and relic system updates
Version 2.7 will also feature updates to game modes like the Divergent Universe, Pure Fiction, and Memory of Chaos, as well as new additions to the relic system that will make it easier for players to get the perfect gear for their characters. The Divergent Universe has been updated with new Curios, Weighted Curios, Equations, and more. Save files used to farm Planar Ornament relics now also last longer, as they will persist until the next Divergent Universe update instead of expiring every weekly reset.
The Pure Fiction game mode will now make use of the ‘Grit’ mechanic, which will grant buffs to the player as they deal damage and defeat enemies. Non-boss enemies will now also continually spawn in each wave and defeating them will deal damage to the wave’s boss enemy. Defeating a wave’s boss enemy will then advance the player onto the next wave.
Memory of Chaos has also been tweaked by letting players clear Floor 9 to collect all rewards from the previous floors and start the next Memory of Chaos cycle with Floor 9 already unlocked. Finally, a new relic material called ‘Wishful Resin’ has been introduced, which will let players choose a substat of their choice for their relics. One Wishful Resin will be consumed for each relic substat selection.
The addition of the Wishful Resin also lets players get a relic with the main stat and four substats of their choice at the cost of one Self-Modeling Resin and four Wishful Resin. The Variable Dice relic material has also been added, which lets players re-roll the substats for their existing fully-upgraded relics.
Amphoreus, the Eternal Land
HoYoverse has also given players a look at what’s to come in Version 3.0. The game’s next major update will see the Astral Express journey to Amphoreus. Also known as the Eternal Land, this mysterious world had never been visited by the Aeon of Trailblaze Akivili, and is caught between three different Paths. It also shelters a thriving civilization of humanity that is caught in an eternal struggle against unknown forces.
New playable Path, Remembrance
The Astral Express’ arrival to Amphoreus also coincides with the release of a new playable path: the Path of Remembrance. Characters following the Path of Remembrance use Summons called Memosprites in battle. These Memosprites act as on-field characters that can attack and take other actions, as well as receive shields and buffs.
Two 5-star Remembrance characters have already been revealed: Aglaea and the Remembrance Trailblazer. We can expect more of them to be released in future Version 3.0 update cycles.
Upcoming Amphoreus playable characters
HoYoverse has teased the list of playable characters releasing in Version 3.0 onwards. These characters, known as Chrysos Heirs and Flame-Chasers, are the legendary heroes of Amphoreus that lead civilization in their titanic struggle.
Interestingly enough, the term ‘Flame-Chaser’ is also used to denote another group of heroes in Honkai: Star Rail’s spiritual predecessor, Honkai Impact 3rd. Many of Honkai: Star Rail’s Amphoreus Flame-Chasers notably bear striking similarities to their counterparts from Honkai Impact 3rd.
Here are all the Amphoreus Flame-Chasers revealed so far:
