Nintendo’s lawsuit isn’t keeping Palworld down as it now heads to mobile devices.
Palworld developer Pocketpair is officially bringing its smash hit survival game to mobile platforms. The developer has signed an agreement with PUBG: Battlegrounds publisher Krafton to “expand the Palworld IP to the mobile platform” with “faithfully” reinterpreted gameplay elements.
Developer PUBG Studios will be in charge of bringing Palworld to mobile devices.
Pocketpair and Krafton are bringing Palworld to mobile devices
The makers of PUBG: Battlegrounds are bringing Palworld to mobile platforms. This week, South Korean game publisher Krafton announced that it had reached an agreement with Palworld developer Pocketpair to bring the Pokemon-like survival game to mobile devices. However, it appears that this port will feature slight differences from current console and PC versions of the game.
The translated news release reads:
Through this contract, Krafton will expand the Palworld IP to the mobile platform. It plans to faithfully reinterpret and implement the original's main fun elements to fit the mobile environment. The project will be handled by the development team of 'PUBG STUDIOS,' a creative studio under Krafton.
Given that Krafton plans to “faithfully reinterpret and implement” the original game, we can assume that Palworld’s upcoming mobile version will feature an overhauled control scheme and other similar changes to better suit mobile users. It’s unlikely that the game will feature additional content beyond what’s currently available in Palworld’s PC and console versions, but at this stage, it’s hard to say for sure.
Palworld became a smash hit at launch earlier this year, racking up two million concurrent players on Steam alone in January. Developer Pocketpair might end up having to pay a heavy price for that massive spike in popularity, however. Last month, Nintendo announced that it was filing a lawsuit against Pocketpair for patent infringement “together with The Pokemon Company.”
This followed an investigation carried out by the console maker earlier this year into similarities between Palworld and the Pokemon game franchise. Despite this ongoing lawsuit however, Palworld has now secured both a PlayStation and mobile launch.
