Capcom shows off Monster Hunter Wilds’ new mechanics in three gameplay trailers.

Capcom has released three new gameplay trailers for Monster Hunter Wilds, showing off a few new mechanics from the open world game. These new trailers feature the game’s new dinosaur-like mount, the Seikret, the return of the Great Sword, and a new way to target enemy weak points called Focus Mode.

Focus Mode essentially allows players to target enemy weak points with more precision. For example, attacking an enemy in the same place multiple times will create open wounds. The Focus Mode will highlight these wounds when they’re created, and attacking them will generate more damage. The mode will also automatically highlight other weak points when an enemy exposes them, allowing you to deal what Capcom calls Focus Strikes to deal more damage.

Capcom shows off new Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay

Capcom’s new open-world entry in the Monster Hunter franchise will only launch sometime in 2025, but the developer is already showing off a few of its new mechanics via three new trailers. The first of these trailers is titled Basic Mechanics Overview, and it does exactly what it says on the tin, showing off the basic aspects of Monster Hunter Wilds’ gameplay.

The big ticket item here is the game’s new Seikret mount, which can guide players towards a designated target. They can also do things like gather resources, sharpen weapons, and down poitions while on the Seikret’s back, making it a pretty convenient travel option. The Slinger returns in this game as well, allowing players to either slingshot or gather items from afar. The grapple-like item can also be used to interact with the environment, as the video demonstrates by having a Hunter pull down some rocks.

Another trailer features the Great Sword, a large blade weapon that allows players to deal huge amounts of damage one blow at a time. Capcom states that the sword is pretty adaptable, allowing players to commit hit-and-run attacks or guard against enemies.

Monster Hunter Wilds will launch sometime in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
