The Last of Us Season 2 teases some all-new content in a short trailer.

HBO has released a brief teaser for The Last of Us Season 2, which has Joel interrogated about his decision to save Ellie at the end of Season 1. This short trailer was included in a preview for Max’s upcoming content in 2024 and 2025, like Welcome to Derry, The White Lotus Season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 shows off new footage

HBO’s first teaser for The Last of Us Season 2 is a mere 24 seconds long, but it shows off a ton of exciting new footage featuring returning cast members Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Pascal, who plays Joel, is questioned by an unknown character played by Catherine O’Hara regarding his choice at the end of Season 1. He eventually affirms that he saved her while shedding a tear.

The Last of Us Season 2 will adapt the events of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2, and fans will find plenty of familiar imagery from the game in this trailer. For example, it starts off with a party in Jackson held in a barn, where Ellie (Ramsey) watches her neighbours dance from afar. In the game, this party is part of a pivotal flashback sequence involving Ellie, Dina and Joel.

The teaser also contains a first look at Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, and Isabela Merced’s Dina. Jeffrey Wright is also seen reprising his role as Isaac, and it looks like the series is expanding on his story quite a bit. We also see a few Seraphites, and some new scenes that weren’t present in the game. Catherine O’Hara’s character is new to the series, and there’s an unfamiliar scene of Ellie screaming while being held down.

The Last of Us Season 2 will air on HBO sometime in 2025, and it may take up to three seasons for the series to fully adapt the events of The Last of Us Part 2.
