Baldur’s Gate 3’s next update won’t be its last, as Larian works on playtesting Patch 7.

Larian Studios isn’t done with Baldur’s Gate 3 just yet. The developer has announced that its critically-acclaimed fantasy RPG is getting a bevy of new features in Patch 7, the game’s latest major update. These features include new ending cinematics for evil playthroughs, split screen quality-of-life fixes, a modding toolkit and lots of kissing animation improvements.

To quote the patch notes: “In the words of Michelangelo, no great work of art is ever finished, and so too is our approach to the art of snogging.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 adds a bunch of new game features

Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting a bunch of quality-of-life improvements and features in Patch 7, its latest major update. Larian’s patch notes for this update are quite extensive, but they start with a new dynamic split screen mode for co-op players. Instead of being confined to their side of the screen, players can now merge their split screens together when they’re close by.

The newly-added Honour Mode is also getting a few changes, with several enemies getting more Legendary Actions to make things that much harder for the player. Several new cinematics are also being added to bulk up evil playthrough-specific endings, giving you all sorts of new cutscenes to discover depending on who you’re playing as and the choices you’ve made. Dark Urge players can also recruit Alfira as a controllable character to the party for a little while. If you know… you know.

Patch 7 also adds fixes and improvements for various in-game companions, mostly involving their romantic relationships with the player. Wyll, Astarion, Lae’Zel, Karlach, Gale and Shadowheart are being targeted in this patch, with a few of them getting better kissing animations and generally more reactivity during critical story moments. Party banter between companions is also no longer limited to the characters controlled by a single player.

This patch also adds Baldur’s Gate 3’s long-awaited modding toolkit. This toolkit will allow players to edit and create all-new content for the game, including:

  • Items -  Equipment like weapons and armours, consumables, and miscellaneous items.
  • Cosmetics - Including different hair, beards, and other textures.
  • Classes and Subclasses - Creating new variants or modifying existing ones to edit abilities, powers, and skills.
  • Races - These can be created and edited to determine overall appearance, as well as their individual powers and abilities.
  • Dice Skins - You’ll also have the ability to edit or redesign the appearance of your dice skins!
  • User Interface - Including extensions and restyling of the game UI.
  • Quality of Life Improvements - Such as mods that edit or improve gameplay that don’t rely on unsupported elements.

Larian also confirms that Patch 7 won't be the game's final update, as the developer still has, “a few things up our sleeve - including many community-requested features like crossplay and a photo mode to capture and share your unforgettable moments.” A few other quality-of-life improvements and similar tweaks are also in the works. Patch 7 only launches this September, but players can try playtesting the update in closed beta on July 22. If you want to try the closed beta, you can register on the game’s Steam page now for a chance to take part. Find more details on Larian’s official Patch 7 notes.
