Optimus Prime, Megatron, Arcee and Bumblebee join Overwatch this week.
Several Transformers are invading the world of Overwatch. Yes, really: Blizzard Entertainment’s latest crossover event for Overwatch 2 is bringing Autobots and Decepticons to the game as new skins.
An animated trailer has also revealed exactly which Overwatch heroes are getting transformed (sorry) into Cybertronians for this crossover:
Overwatch 2 x Transformers collab unveiled
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed an Overwatch 2 x Transformers crossover event, which brings several skins and a lore comic to the first-person shooter. The trailer above confirms at least four event skins, transforming Reinhardt into Optimus Prime, Ramattra into Megatron, Illari into Arcee and Bastion into Bumblebee. All of these seem like fantastic picks for their Autobot and Decepticon counterparts, especially Ramattra, who currently plays the role of Overwatch 2’s revolutionary villain.
The recently published lore comic provides some context for this crossover, too: Megatron has arrived in the world of Overwatch 2 and intends to claim it for the Decepticons. To do so, he enlists Ramattra’s help in acting as his physical avatar, and the Autobots seemingly do the same for Reinhardt, Illari and Bastion. While past Overwatch 2 crossovers have also included event-specific game modes, it doesn’t look like we’re getting a Transformers mode this time around.
This means that Transformers fans will have to settle for the lore comic as far as new story content goes. If this event follows the same format as previous Overwatch 2 crossovers, like Cowboy Bebop, Le Sserafim and One Punch Man, most of these Transformers skins will likely be purchasable in the in-game shop. One should be available for free through gameplay, though Blizzard has yet to confirm as such. Past crossovers have also included cosmetic bundles with event-themed emotes, name cards and sprays as well.
However, I should add that there are plenty more Overwatch heroes practically begging to be turned into Transformers characters. Winston as Optimus Primal seems like a slam dunk to me, so why stop at just four skins? Overwatch 2 x Transformers kicks off on July 9.
