We now have gameplay for Capcom’s first open world Monster Hunter game.
Capcom popped up at PlayStation’s State of Play presentation this week to drop a new gameplay trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds. The open world Monster Hunter game is set to launch sometime in 2025, and this trailer shows off electrical sandstorms, new monsters and plenty of combat.

During this week’s State of Play presentation, Capcom dropped a first look at Monster Hunter Wilds’ gameplay, featuring a new cast of characters looking for someone in a vast sandy desert. According to a PlayStation Blog post, the game features, “an immersive and constantly changing Monster Hunter ecosystem,” which we see a little bit of in the roaming monster herds wandering around a map.
The blog also notes that players who encounter a large monster while exploring an environment can begin that quest seamlessly, as well as talk to other characters in fully voiced conversations. It looks like the Palicoes talk this time, too. Most of the trailer focuses on showing off a region called the Windward Plains, which consists of, “sandy deserts, swaying grasslands, and twisting rock formations.” Presumably, each of these biomes will also feature different monsters.
Monster Hunter Wilds will also introduce a new mount for players to travel with: the two-legged Seikret. These mounts have a strong sense of smell and can take players to locations they specify on the map. You can also use certain items while moving around on the Seikret, and use the mount to switch to a secondary weapon without returning to base.
Capcom referred to Monster Hunter Wilds as, “The next generation in the genre defining series,” when the game was first revealed at 2023’s The Game Awards. The game is aiming to launch solely on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, making it the franchise’s first next-gen game in a long while. It’s also set to be a fully open world game, as opposed to Monster Hunter: World, which at most offered semi-open zones for players to visit.
