Here’s your first look at Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 - minus The Boys’ Antony Starr.
Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have released a gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1’s next playable fighter: Homelander from The Boys. The supervillain is joining the fighting game’s playable roster on June 4, and his moveset includes plenty of fun little references to the series that fans are sure to appreciate.
Notably, however, series actor Antony Starr is not reprising his role for the game:
Homelander arrives in Mortal Kombat 1 with laser vision, milk and planes in tow
Homelander from The Boys will arrive in Mortal Kombat 1 as a paid DLC fighter on June 4, 2024. The Superman-like villain was first announced to join Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack DLC back in July 2023, along with Invincible’s Omni-Man, DC Comics’ Peacemaker and returning characters Takeda, Quan Chi and Ermac. Takeda will be the last remaining fighter to be released after Homelander’s arrival in June.
Fans of The Boys should be pleased by Mortal Kombat 1’s interpretation of Homelander, despite it borrowing Antony Starr’s likeness and not his voice. The actor has confirmed that he will not return to voice the role despite continuing to play him on The Boys and other cameo appearances. Still, this fighter retains much of his personality from the series, delivering snippy retorts to other fighters’ attempts at banter and chugging a milk bottle in a show of utter degeneracy.
We also see Homelander bisecting Sub-Zero with his laser vision, much like he does in the series, and toss Liu Kang through an airplane’s jet engine in a callback to his lazy attempt to save some airline passengers in Season 1. His moveset also includes throwing his opponents into the sky and laser vision-ing everyone in sight. Otherwise, he looks fairly similar to Invincible’s Omni-Man in gameplay.
Homelander comes paired with Ferra from Mortal Kombat X, who acts as a Kameo fighter in this game. It looks like Ferra can latch onto a fighter and subsequently be thrown at enemies whenever necessary. Both characters join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster on June 4, more than a week before The Boys Season 4 hits Prime Video on June 13.
