Activision has confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty is Black Ops 6, with a full reveal to come in June’s Xbox Showcase.

We now know what this year’s Call of Duty game is going to be: Black Ops 6. Activision officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 this week after days of teasing the game on social media using cryptic images and clues. The last of these clues was a video featuring an unnamed group of people defacing Mount Rushmore with the words ‘the truth lies’ and the Black Ops logo.

It looks like this year’s Call of Duty will focus on an American conspiracy of some sort. The game will be fully revealed during June’s Xbox Games Showcase.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 officially announced

Activision has revealed that the Call of Duty franchise is going back to Black Ops this year, with a sequel titled Black Ops 6. The series is once again embracing numbered titles after its last instalment, Black Ops Cold War, for a game that appears to be set in the modern day. A recent found footage teaser video for the game featured a group of individuals vandalising Mount Rushmore, as seen below:

Activision calls Black Ops 6, “A dark new chapter of the Black Ops franchise,” and plans to share a first look at gameplay and other announcements for the title during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. There will also be a deep dive specifically centred on Black Ops 6 planned to take place directly after the showcase, wherein Activision will presumably tell fans everything they need to know about the game.

Previous leaks and rumours have suggested that this year’s Black Ops game will be set during the Gulf War, but its social media accounts are also teasing some sort of conspiratorial plot, with cryptic statements like, “There are two sides to every story. The one they tell you... and the truth.” It’s also rumoured that Black Ops 6 will launch as a Day One title on Xbox Game Pass, though it might only be available at a higher-priced subscription tier.

Activision has not confirmed a release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
