Overwatch 2 is adding Cowboy Bebop skins, emotes and more cosmetics themed after the anime next week.
Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled Overwatch 2’s upcoming Cowboy Bebop crossover event, which adds skins, emotes and more cosmetics themed after the anime to the game. There are five skins in total, faithfully transforming Overwatch 2 heroes into the Bebop’s chaotic crew: Cassidy is Spike Spiegel, Ashe is Faye Valentine (BOB gets a skin themed after her ship the Red Tail), Sombra is Ed, Mauga is Jet Black and Wrecking Ball is Ein.
Wrecking Ball’s Ein skin will be unlockable for free, but the rest of these cosmetics will be purchaseable in Overwatch 2’s in-game shop. Here's a trailer for the crossover:
A closer look at Overwatch 2’s Cowboy Bebop skins
Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2 Season 9 would feature a Cowboy Bebop crossover a while back, but this is the first time we’ve seen what the event actually entails. It’s a pretty hefty crossover on par with the game’s recent Le Sserafim event, too - lots of skins, with one being free for all players, and a slick-looking trailer ripped right out of Cowboy Bebop’s iconic opening sequence with music by Yoko Kanno.
The trailer shows us an early sneak peek of the Cowboy Bebop-inspired Overwatch 2 skins, and they’re shockingly faithful to the crew of the Bebop. Cassidy and Ashe take center stage as Spike Spiegel and Faye Valentine respectively, but the latter’s robot companion BOB also gets a skin themed after Faye’s personal zipcraft the Red Tail. Mauga goes bald for a Jet Black skin. Sombra gets an Ed skin, which makes sense considering both characters are hackers. Wrecking Ball gets a skin inspired by the corgi Ein - though we don’t really get a good look at what the ball mech actually looks like.
Overwatch 2’s Cowboy Bebop crossover will arrive on March 12, but these skins will get a proper reveal on March 11. This isn’t the first time Overwatch 2 has done an anime crossover, either. The shooter has partnered up with One Punch Man for skins themed after Saitama, Genos, Mumen Rider and Terrible Tornado. Its Le Sserafim was considerably more complex, with more intricate cosmetics, an entire event and a flashy music video paired with the K-pop group’s new single.
